Soaking solution for treating rips
« on: July 03, 2008, 08:23:38 PM »
Since I just had my first rip the other day (on my hand; rips on my feet are old news), I came up with a solution to soak them in that speeds healing.

Many people have mentioned salt and/or epsom salt soaks. However the epsom salts can sting. Here is a solution to ease the stinging a bit:

Mix 2 teaspoons of epsom salts and 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a shallow pan big enough to soak your hand in.

Pour in about a cup of water that's as hot as you can stand. Remember that raw skin is more sensitive to heat, and remember also that water in a shallow pan will cool faster than it will in a bowl, so keep that in mind as you choose the temperature of the water.

Stir to dissolve completely.

Soak your ripped hands in the solution for about 10 minutes. Pat dry, and let air dry. Leave hands uncovered for the rest of the day.

Repeat twice a day, or more if the rips get dirt in them, until healed.

The baking soda helps take some of the sting out.

Happy healing!
She followed slowly, taking a long time,
as though there were some obstacle in the way;
and yet: as though, once it was overcome,
she would be beyond all walking, and would fly.
