I think it varies a lot and depending on the editing and shots in the video, different songs will work. Like the "McDaniel Training" video was to a Slipknot song, and it worked well methinks [of course I did edit it :p]. But it was brutally sunny out, fastish editing, suited the music.
On the other side of the spectrum was the "From Dark to Dawn" video that gear and I did, shot on a very [and visibly] "lazy" day that transitions into a night run, the music was the perfect ambient funky beat that matched the video and the editing nicely. [in fact we heard the song and chose it first before we even filmed anything]
So it really can vary from video to video, Hip Hop always seems to work well though :p
