"Ground Zero" FreeRunning article
« on: May 14, 2008, 07:23:49 PM »
First and foremost, I would like to express my extreme distaste and displeasure the way that Dan Vidal misrepresented the disciplines of parkour and freerunning.  His article is a farce, a misguided visionless insight into the culture and community that I love and respect.
As a member of Ground Zero, I apologize to the members of Ventilation X and the out of context quotation that Mr. Vidal put into the article.  Dan Ginzberg did not say that about Ventilation X, his quote was about recent video and commercialization of the sport, not of the team itself.
This article should be taken offline.  It paints our community as shallow, egotistical and childish..which it is anything but.  The level of commitment of all traceurs, traceuse and freerunners share requires the same level of focus, self-reliance and vigor, if not more than, that of a professional athlete.  We respect the community and the art.
The article that my team and I are associated with is shameful. Mr. Vidal expressed a lack of professionalism and is merely an article for shock value, that holds no true worth.

Thanks for the update Erik. Unfortunately this is an angle that many "journalists" will take. Check out the news, their job is unfortunately "shock value" instead of "education". It may do some good to write a letter to the editor of the publication, I'd be even a little more tempered than your above post for best results.

I just read the article about you guys in Philly Weekly, I'd be surprised if Dan Vidal still had a job. Its cool to see you guys getting out there and the pics were great too, but I'm sure you could have been represented a lot better. As a member of VX, I appreciate the shoutout. Finally we can get some good feedback from somebody on this site. When it comes to being misrepresented, we know how you feel. The website looks great and we wish you luck on your possible trip to malaysia.

yea and the guy was like "i was unimpressed" so he thinks that pk and freerunning is all about the big jumps and cool flips and everything and he doesnt know what the sport is all about and stuff. we should like, petition to get him fired or something.
