Welcome to The FreeRunner Issue 09!

Summer is right around the corner, and you know what that means... it's almost National Jam season! National Jams are probably the greatest part of parkour. People from major cities like New York City, Chicago, San Antonio, and Washington DC meet up with people from small towns in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nevada, or Kansas. And where else will these complete strangers come together, and within five minutes be acting like they were playing in the sandbox together? I encourage all traceurs, especially new ones, to get out to as many big jams as they can. You'll expand your horizons and learn from so many people - it really is an incredible experience! The APK Alliance's Jesse Danger has been coordinating a National Jams Schedule list to help people figure out where things are happening, when they're going down, and who to contact for more info.

Training the Traceur: The Rest Day
by Charles Moreland

This month, I want to address a significant problem I have seen growing quite rapidly in the parkour realm. The problem is simple, but the solution is often not so easy to implement. This month, I want to address the “rest day.” Parkour is exhilerating but too plyometric to be performed or trained as it often is. We go, go, go from dawn to dusk and often times repeat it the very next day. We often forget the necessity of RestDays so to be sure you get the most out of your training, check out this excellent article here.

New Approach to Dealing with Authorities

The traceurs at MN Parkour have been working on the following idea for several months now, and it's finally come to fruition. They thought some sort of pamphlet to hand out to security and law enforcement officers would be really helpful. They asked us to share it with other groups and communities, so you can use this as inspiration or a template. Read the full description of the project and check out the PDF they created. See all the details here.

This month's Picture of the Month is from Miami Freerunning!

The "Video of the Month" this month is the Worldwide Traceuse Project 2009 - Girls Training Parkour Around the World. Very impressive compilation!
