Chicago Urbanathalon Write Up
Monday, 27 October 2008

Tribe and Alliance members Billy “Skipper,” Ryan “Cloud,” Travis Noble, Max “BNP,” and Mike “Kipup” converged upon Chicago to perform at the Urbanathalon in mid October.  The boys rocked the course despite the inconvienient weather. Cloud was kind enough to do the full writeup along with pics. Click below to read the full writeup.

The weekend of October 18th members of the Alliance and Tribe (Billy “Skipper,” Ryan “Cloud,” Travis Noble, Max “BNP,” and Mike “Kipup”) set out to Chicago for a performance at the Urbanathlon

The night before the performance we had a chance to take a closer look at the course to become a little more familiar with it.  After we were satisfied we checked in for the night and made sure the primal athletes came into town alright and were ready for tomorrow.  We woke up and started rehearsing at 7:30 am after a rough night and an early morning thunderstorm.

The course was soaked right off the bat so we tried to dry everything has fast has we could.  Luckily Cody “ssj3500,” from the local Aero community, was there early with us to help out and do a little training as well.  By the time the first athlete finished the race, 9ish, we had our routes planned out and the sun was out long enough to dry most of the course out.  The Dodge and K Swiss staff were great and helped to make sure everything went has smoothly has possible.  The announcer was busy at the finish line, so our performances got off to a late start, but we were still staying warm and training in front of a crowd of onlookers.  Total attendance at the urbanathlon came in around 3,000.  We decided it would be best not to miss our 11 o clock check out so we broke for lunch and checked out of the hotel.

When we got back we got right into the heart of things and jumped right into a performance.  Everything went smooth and it went off without a hitch.  Between performances the crowd could partake in the course and complete various challenges.  We continued to train sporadically between people participating in the course, but we made it over to the finish line to start performing on the Cars and the 8ft wall everyone had to get over.  We did another two performances and had a great time exploring the use of two cabs (it’s amazing what you can come up with when you don’t have to worry about damaging the car!)  Most people were impressed with the fact that we could all jump over the highest part of the car with ease while most of the athletes struggled to make their way over the hood of the car.  But I don’t blame them since they just ran 10.5 miles…

The day wrapped up with several athletes turning the beer tent into a competition.  They proceeded to venturing over to the cab\wall to give a second stab at it, but were only thwarted by security once they noticed how “balanced” they were.  The Women’s team did a great job and came in 4th place.  We packed up and headed out to UIC for a light jam and finished it off with some deliciously Thai Bowl!!!
