My mom checks the site every day. She calls me up sometimes "what's going on, no updates for a week!!??". When you say "Happy Mother's Day" today, be sure to say "Thank You" as well - and think of all the things you have to be grateful for, starting with your mother :) And Mommas - let your children play!

Miami Parkour Performs at NBC Health Expo Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 May 2008

Our friends down at MIAPK recently had their first team performance at the Miami Beach Convention center. It was for the NBC health and fitness expo and the event went great! This demonstration was a very last minute stretch by the client, as they contacted Miami Parkour about 24 hours before the performance, but they pulled it off. They even ended up having to bring blocks from their gymnastics school to have something to perform on at least! Great work guys, way to pull it together with no planning or equipment until the day before the event!

APK Alliance Freerunning Tutorials Print E-mail
Sunday, 27 April 2008

The members of the APK Alliance have noticed that the Tutorials section of APK, while covering most of the essential 'moves' for parkour, was lacking in tutorials for those who would like to do more elaborate movements for Freerunning.  Thus, they will be adding step by step guides and videos for a variety of movements each week.  Be sure to keep an eye here and on the APK Tutorials Page for these additions.

K-Swiss Freerunning Tour: Episode 3 - NYC Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 May 2008

I give you the Grand Daddy of the tour. Mostly because K-Swiss fronted a lot of cash to reserve a spot in the middle of the busiest place in New York City, but also because more people walked through Times Square and were exposed to Freerunning that day, than all of the other tour dates combined!

A little back story for you, we were supposed to begin performing at about 6:00am, all the way until 4:00pm. We walked outside of our hotel at 5:30am and just about died. It was cold, it was wet.... it was pouring. But luckily, by 10am, we got a break in the weather, it dried up, and we got a full day in of performing! it was AWESOME!!!

Skipper's 3rd Annual (B)East Coast Jam Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 April 2008

Alright guys, Its time for (B)East Cost to happen again. The announcement comes a bit late due to confusion with the Parkour Generations event in Ohio, But I feel as if the two jams can co-exist, being that the (B)East Coast Jam has traditionally fallen on Memorial Day weekend, and there are many people counting on it happening then.

Rehabilitating Human Movement Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 May 2008

an Article by Max Calder (BNP ). Excerpt: "we as humans have a social stigma about playing, we believe it to be immature or not proper for adults to do. So around the preteen age most humans stop playing and thus stop moving, with the exception of basic bi pedal movement" ... "We were dormant from playing and natural human growth so we must ease back into it slowly and safely to restrengthen ourselves physically and mentally for advanced movement" Click "Read More" for the full article.

Happy Birthday David! Print E-mail
Monday, 28 April 2008

In February of 2002 I saw something that changed my life. The BBC's "Rush Hour" video featured a man jumping between buildings, flipping, vaulting, all with incredible grace. There was no question to me that these "stunts" were real and that the man performing them had worked incredibly hard to get to the physical and mental level he demonstrated. The day I saw that video changed the rest of my life. David Belle brought us all Parkour and I am forever grateful. Thank You David Belle, Joyeux anniversaire! - M2 - "Read More" for video.

Thoughts on Criticism - By Travis Noble and Cloud Print E-mail
Monday, 28 April 2008

Giving Criticism
When giving criticism and feedback in any situation it's always good to keep a few things in mind. Most importantly support your claim; if it's a bad roll then explain why. Don't just tell someone they suck or that their kong is wrong, make sure to give feedback. If you're criticizing someone let them know how to fix it.

K-Swiss Freerunning Tour Video - San Fran, USC, SMU Print E-mail
Monday, 28 April 2008

Here it is, the first of Three videos documenting The Tribe's recent National K-Swiss Freerunning tour. Over the next three days, we will be releasing all three videos (one per day) right here on the home page of the site, so be sure to check back regularly!

This Video is the compiled footage from the first three legs of the tour, University of San Francisco, University of Southern California, and Southern Methodist University in Dallas. I apologize for the lack of footage in USC and Dallas, we were too engulfed in training, hanging out, goofing off, that we just up and forgot to whip out the video camera! We still got enough to get the point across though :)

Leave No Trace - Updated with Pics Print E-mail
Saturday, 26 April 2008

Parkour practitioners (traceurs) and Freerunners hold certain ideals, among them the most important are safe practice and respect for our environments we train in. To highlight this, we are banding together across the country today to clean up areas where we train. In Washington, DC a group will leave Primal Fitness at 12:00 after a parkour training session and head for Rock Creek Park where we'll aim to fill at least 30 bags of trash. Please check your state forums to see if there is an initiative near you and join in, if there isn't a post in the forums, call your friends, go out, and clean up your favorite training spots!

UPDATE: Check out the pics here or add your own - Leave No Trace Photo Album

Woodland Parkour Training Video Print E-mail
Friday, 25 April 2008

A group a traceurs from Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia went for a training day in Whatcom Falls Park in Bellingham, Washington. Tim Khan shot and edited this great video which shows a very productive day of training exercises in a beautiful wooded location. I really like this video as it shows "the other side" of Parkour, that it's not about concrete and brick, it's about moving wherever you are. Always Keep Moving .
