Parkour should not be that strictly defined. Parkour is an art, and should be treated as one.

Parkour is defined as the easiest way to get from point A to point B, and if that includes flips, then it is Parkour. Flips may be needed to keep a stable balance, and if they are easier in certain situations than precision jumping, then I think that they are certainly part of Parkour.

Although Parkour can be artistic in its movements, Parkour is defined by speed and efficiency. Flips fall under none of these categories. There for flips are NOT Parkour. Coming from a person who can perform acrobatics it is never easier to flip from A to B! In an emergency situation a flip is an unnecessary waste of energy. Read the background and history of Parkour. If what you say diverts you from the original path it is no longer the thing you have started. It is something else, so call it everything but Parkour.

If you are a member of this site I'm pretty sure that you're aware that parkour are not flips and other acrobatics. It is clearly stated under the "What is not parkour" reading on this site. If you have neglected to read up on what parkour is and assumed otherwise I suggest that you read the "What is parkour" and "What is freerunning?" pages. Flips are clearly freerunning. If you are flipping and calling it parkour stop, call it something other than parkour.
