Hey there! I'm Devin Martin and I live and train in San Antonio, Texas. I
have been a part of the community for a while, and if you've ever been
to Texas to train, chances are we've met. Despite that, I know that a
lot of people haven't seen my face or heard anything about me online.
Well, that's all about to change as soon as I'm done building Celerity
Park. Let me take a second to explain what Celerity Park is; basically,
it's what we believe to be the first parkour park in the United States.
I have been working with the Parks and Recreation department of San
Antonio, and the City Council for a year and a half now trying to keep
this beautiful dream alive. To tell the truth, I had my doubts for a
while there that this park would ever happen. We had some major hurdles
to overcome in getting this park sanctioned, and I wasn't sure we'd be
able to pull through. I did my best to stay focused and keep working,
and as a result, with March 2nd came the payout.
SA CREW (the group of traceurs that I've been working with to make this
all happen) has been approved by Parks and Recreation.. they love our
ideas and, in fact, want us to design more for the rest of the park! At
the meeting that took place on March 2nd, we were approved through the
final requirements to get this park off the ground. That's right, we
have a green light, and it's time to get to work on building this place.
What I'm hoping to achieve with this article is to pull the community
together to make this park a success. A parkour park has been a dream
for many traceurs all over the country, and by building this park we
break ground on something that has never been done here before. This
park can set precedent for many other projects, all over the nation. To
make this happen now, we really need all of your support. I believe that
this is a project that can show the public how tight of a community the
Parkour scene is. Lets pull together and get this thing done!
What we need to work on first is a fence. We are required to surround
this park with a 6 foot high, chain-link fence. The estimated cost of
this fence is 2,000. Now, we don't have any huge sponsors, or brand
names behind this thing. This is just a bunch of traceurs who love to
train together and want to see this park happen. We don't really have
the money to build a fence like that. In fact, the obstacles we were
going to put in the park are made by our own hands out of recycled
materials and donations! This is a real, true, grass-roots project, and
we could use your help on it.
APK is helping to raise funds for the park. We have directly commited
$1,000 for the project and are asking the community to help raise $5,000
mor for the fence and materials. Please consider making a donation to
make this park a reality!Click
