If you just watched MTV's "Ultimate Parkour Challenge" you may have a few reactions - "Wow, those guys are amazing!" - "Holy S#it that's cool I gotta try it" or maybe "OK, this is seriously dangerous" - in any case, there's a few things you need to know.

1. We are not suicidal - the object is NOT to subject yourself to danger. Quite the contrary, we practice safely and progressively.

2. This is a discipline, it takes training, hard work, and dedication to become good, but ANYONE can get started.

3. Parkour and Freerunning are fun! This beats the crap out of running on a treadmill or pumping some crazy arm machine.

Check out our "How to get started" section for more info!

LOL some crazy arm machine ^_^

2. 10-22-2009 21:59

Nice article. Definitely appropriate after all that high caliber talent was just displayed.

3. 10-22-2009 22:59

Yeah, good article.

Reminding people of the discipline was needed, I can already see a bunch of kids flooding PK websites, learning a move or two then jumping off a roof.

Thank you so much for putting this up, it will help calm the influx of people.

Well, as the show depicts, Parkour is partly about having fun doing what you do, but you can only have fun and feel complete if you train right, and land something for the first time, and every time after that. If you just go out and attempt it, it doesn't give the same feeling as if you had worked for it.

Oh no..... What has MTV done? Parents everywhere are going to say

"My kid was parkouring on the roof and fell, broke his arm, He got the idea from MTV"

hahaha, my first response to them would be, "what's Parkouring? and your kid is an Idiot." I surely hope this doesn't ruin the Image of Parkour..... There needs to be some better way to bring Parkour out in the Spotlight without adding Competition.

6. 10-23-2009 00:54

I seriously thing someone should air one of the Jump documentaries or Point B on TV. That would give one of the most helpful definitions of parkour in the media yet.

7. 10-23-2009 06:07

I Agree With Andrew. Those were amazing documentaries.

8. 10-23-2009 08:47

i like how they called it a parkour challenge but only one round was purely parkour.

but the lachey to backflip into a fence during that round was priceless

9. 10-23-2009 10:01

While a lot of traceurs don't like the negative connotation of the competition part of the show, this will definitely grow Parkour and Freerunning in the US. I just hope enough people do it for the right reasons...

and I concur, the backflip freaked me out along with the missed ladder jump. At least they showed how you could seriously mess yourself up, even if you know what you're doing.

10. 10-23-2009 10:09

It didnt seem like the traceurs in the show were checking surfaces(guy sliced his hand) and i hope this will bring parkour into a good light with the media

11. 10-23-2009 10:10

GO ILABACA!!

12. 10-23-2009 11:23

i agree martial, that guy kicked ass.

the parkour/freerunning community will be growing quite a bit, but it will be sure to bring 1000s of posers

13. 10-23-2009 12:43

good thinking guys with this announcement.

14. 10-23-2009 14:33

agree, this is gonna bring alot of posers who think they can do this but fail whenerv they try, i alrady see this i know ppl who are posers in my school but when i stay after to use our school groundsthey come along try it and injure themselves because they think they so cool. Safety is always number 1 and goofing off to try to look tough isnt the way to do it, beside parkour shouldnt be about trying to see who is the best its a lifestyle, to help you personally not to make u look cool

15. 10-23-2009 15:35

Master Roach, if people who come along injure themselves, then your not doing your job!!! Help them out!! Introduce them the right way. Not everyone will listen, but you should at least TRY to help them on the right path. That is the responsibility that comes with knowing better!
