Overcoming Fear: Wallflips Print E-mail
Wednesday, 29 April 2009

Orlando Parkour gents are working on a mini doc series the first of its kind is titled Overcoming Fear featuring Chris Gonzalez, Grant Miller and Graham hughes of UCF. "We had the camera rolling while Chris tackled his fear of doing wallflips outside the gym for the first time. This video is the result, broken down into the stages of conquering fear (as Chris experienced it.) "

It's a little bit silly, but I think we all can relate to the fear of trying something for the first time. The silly jokes you make to buy time, the antics, the lame excuses. But in the end, you stand there - staring at the wall for an unnecessarily long amount of time, and then push yourself to do it. And that's what overcoming fear is all about.

For a documentary covering something outwardly pretty trivial, this still feels like a profound short. Seeing him go through all the stages we know we go through for every new vault/trick/etc is really...I dunno, comforting? To see fear and overcoming it happening as a non-participating observer is just cool, plain and simple. 3 hour Hollywood movies packed into 5 minutes, with a far more human touch.
