Rest Day

Check out  this article that lays the claim for functionality in exercises such as:

" functional strength exercises such as unilateral cable chest press on the stability ball, single leg squats and balance one-arm rows"

while also stating the SAID principle:

"Specific Adaptations to Imposed Demands (SAID) - A training principle that states the body will adapt in a highly specific way. Training must be specific and it is counterproductive to training for anything other than a specific sports skill."

What are your thoughts on the efficacy of movements such as unilateral cable presses on a swiss ball for real-life function, and how do you feel that specificity should fit into a program that claims functionality in real-world skills, which may vary to the extent of complete randomness?

Sorry i didn't post up yesterday, we had an outdoor jam planned by some kid from the burbs and it ended up snowing but he still wanted to do it so i did the PAK warmup and had a nice warmup run, then waited from an hour for him to show up with two other guys and we just sort of did light stuff and he nver showed...I was not pleased. But yeh I got back and did the jump rope then took a nap.

Hadn't heard of the SAID principle before. Anyway, if I understood it correctly it's quite true in a way. Someone training for olympic weight lifting will never at the same time be a good marathon runner or the other way around.
However, many sports will benefit from metabolic conditioning or an increased aerobic capacity..
If you're a top player in any specific sport you might benefit most from a specific program, but I think most people will benefit most from crossfit or this APK workout which I feel is applicable to most sports and everyday situations.

Combined with some additional dynamic flexibility training this workout also improved my tennis a lot. When working in the garden cutting down trees things have become so much easier, resulting in more money :).

If I were a top tennis player with perfect technique I'd require a more specific program. But right now I have more strength than my technique can handle, so I'm more than happy with the apk workout training my parkour and a lot of other things :)

You're hitting on it exactly. You need a good base of general conditioning, but sport-specific training is a myth. Any sport-specificity that you need can be provided by skills training outside of your strength and conditioning program. :D

Exactly, the way I see it, pretty much everything helps. Even if it is unilateral chest press on the stability ball while leg squatting and balancing one arm rows that I'm using for... uhh... juggling masters tournament?

went for a good run today, about 3 miles, with some PK practice mixed in, underbars and some speed vaults.
Now watching the superbowl and trying to get "double-unders" for the next workout, I can do abuot 1 in a row :(
