Ann Kaczka Documentary - First Year Training Parkour Print E-mail
Tuesday, 13 January 2009

Ann Kaczka just released a documentary she has been working on for some time. It's primary focus is on her first year of training, but it also deals with issues women face when training Parkour, and how she not only is overcoming them for herself, but helping other women overcome those obstacles and challenges as well. Very well done, and very inspirational. Great job, Ann!

From Ann: This documentary discusses my first day of training parkour with David Belle, as well as how that factored into starting the first ladies' jam in New York. Enjoy, be inspired and train!!!!

Great Documentary. Lucky girl that had the opportunity to train with David Belle. I enjoy very much reading every time there is an article about women. Very inspirational, thank you.

Interesting how people say Women can do just what Men do then they find it really impressive when they do parkour that is amateur/mediocre.

Just a thought.

Ok that was freaking awesome, and a great representation of the PK spirit. Plus, training with David Belle, wow!

i dont like how they say that guys are born with strength because thats not true, its just based on activities that we do as we grow up that allow us to build strength, so women could be at the same level if they dont lead lives of tv watching and more complacent stuff. but over all good documentary.

Why can't we just appreciate the fact that it was a wonderful documentary? :p Great job Ann, that was an awesome representation of parkour, and you're already WAY stronger than me!

Ann,
As a fledgling traceuse struggling with self confidence issues and injuries, I can't thank you enough for this documentary. It's exactly what I needed this week to reset my focus and remind me why I'm training. Bravo!

I have to give it kudos. Good work. But I have a couple issues. In getting women into Parkour, confortable and confident I believe this is excellent. I know that the women of parkour can do ALL the things the men of parkour can. Conditioning, techniques, and all the above are things they are well capable of doing. At a point the women should stay training with the men as to not segregate the groups.
Other than that....AWESOME job ladies.

negatve you should really look up some basic biology, because physically there are quite a few differences between men and women, and testosterone does have a big impact on that that physical activity levels wont change.

Nice underbar work. You also have better diving monkey form than my guys do!!!! I'm definitely showing this video to the female traceurs that come to the EPPK Academy. Thanks for taking the time and effort to put this up.

schopper32- I'd have to disagree. Male and female bodies are built differently so they can do different things. Bone and muscle structure is generally the same but there are plenty of drastic differences that would definitely limit a females ability to accomplish the same things that males do. That being said, I'm not trying to discourage females in any way.

IM all for any gender of person to do parkour but to say that mentally limits your abilities, so i'm think that they would improve much faster if they keep telling themselves that they have so many hurdles to go over before than can be as good as men. but once again im all for women in parkour

Bravo! Well done! This is definitely something to inspire traceuses everywhere.

Ann - just gotta say that that was a brilliantly made vid.. thanks for making it and sharing it with us. I'm glad to see that you've progressed so much in the last year. it's all due to your dedication. Keep it up!

ShinobiFoF- I think there is some miscomunication going on because I think we're both saying the same thing. Anyway sorry to drag this out, and I hope I'm not detracting from the purpose of these responses, which is to point out that this is a great video.

I agree with you two to an extent that anatomy changes some abilities, but I mentioned it in an effort to encourage the idea of no limits no matter the circumstance. Albeit, I may have worded it poorly.

"Interesting how people say Women can do..."

Most people use "Woman can do what Men do" in terms of business, academics and other things not related to pure physicality. We all know men are typically stronger than women and have a much easier time getting the strength necessary to do certain moves.

That said, it's no surprise why people are impressed with a girl who can do "mediocre" moves. She's the minority in the sport, and probably had to train harder than the average guy to be able to attain level. Not to mention facing the social stigma of being the only female. It IS impressive.
