The Tribe

Some of the best traceurs in the US have come together as a team to help further Parkour.
These are people who have been always been ready to lend a hand, help someone learn a technique, or just "talk shop".

The idea is simple, put together a team of people who can act as leaders in the US scene, people who are leaders already, now just sharing their strengths as a group. We feel this is something that many traceurs in the US have been looking forward to, it just needed a catalyst to "put some wheels on it" and get it going. M2's previous experiences have helped make him that person, as he's seen Parkour spread from when it was largely only known by the French into a worldwide phenomenon. He's also seen both the good and bad sides of media exposure and its effects on the Parkour community.

As kickoff for the Tribe, we wanted to do something that would help the US to develop in its knowledge of Parkour. It was decided that the best way to do this would be a tutorial DVD that would help beginners to understand some of the basic techniques and building blocks that comprise movements used in Parkour.

To create the DVD most of the members of the Tribe were flown into Washington D.C.

Right from the start, things were horrible. Torrential downpours delayed flights so that the people driving down from NY were forced to make a pickup at Newark at 11:00PM, leading up to a 3:30AM DC arrival, with filming to begin the next morning at 8:00 sharp, in the rain! What happened next was nothing short of magic. When the Tribe members met up in the hotel that night it was as if the match hit the gunpowder, 14 super-high energy people in the same place at the same time with the same goals and ideals is a very powerful force that can overcome any obstacle. The rest of the weekend the group made the best of poor weather and a tight schedule with little sleep and wet clothes to work on a project that we're proud of, as a group that we're very proud to be a part of.

Our goal to act as leaders is something we take with drop-dead seriousness, something that we cherish and will work to ensure that we deserve. We will work to constantly further our abilities to help spread Parkour in a positive way, ensuring that new people gain exposure to Parkour in a way that is both educated and conscientious.

The Tribe is comprised of people with a great deal of knowledge in many fields from Parkour, exercise, and nutrition to gymnastics, martial arts, and media. We feel all of these aspects touch on Parkour or fit in well with how Parkour is practiced, shared, and learned today.

Hopefully our group will grow into a group of Traceurs who are known and respected for the way we represent parkour and the ways in which we help new people become acquainted with Parkour. We look forward to working our asses off to make it happen!

The Tribe's members are:

Akh Horus, Ando, DeeAnn, Demon, Exo, Frosti, Gearsighted, Leon, Silentrushman, Skipper, Skynative, and Weena

Mike Yamrus, creator of the Dispersion DVD is very much a member and integral part of the Tribe, although his speed vaults need some work ;)

M2 acts as tribe elder, mostly just because he's elder.

Finally, SovXietday was asked (and wanted) to take part, but is unfortunately unable to due to school and work commitments.

The DVD is expected to be released in February.

Some comments about the Tribe:

"… we came together to help people, and by coming together it helps all of us take ourselves to the next level. ... the US has something to offer to the global scene." –Skynative

"I stood at the bottom of the grand staircase waiting for a group of guys to walk down the steps that I'd only talked to on forums or seen in videos. These same people, three days later walked up that same staircase as more than acquaintances or even friends, we walked away as a team" –Frosti

i saw the precision graphic from the dvd i think on gammey's (i think i spelled that wrong) site. heh, will, this dvd be "free" (like dispersion), or will it be to make a profit? if it is the latter, what will be the price? i wonder which one will be better, tutorials by APK, or tutorials by UF?

No, unfortunately it won't be free, it will have a cost, which will hopefuilly make a small dent in what costs were put in to produce it, flying and driving people form literally all over the country to DC, filming, all the production work, hotels, food, etc. There's no way it will "break even", but every little bit helps.
The DVD will probably be $15-$20 plus $5 S&H.
As for it being "better" than anyone elses, it really isn't made with that thought in mind, what it will be great at is introducing new people to the basic movements in Parkour. I would practically recomend that anyone doing parkour for 3 months or more shouldn't even bother. Likewise for people with groups around them who they can go train with and learn from.
What this will be great for is new guys & gals who want to get started but just don't know where or how, this will give them ideas and get them started, that's all it's meant to do.

WOWY Finally something has been set in motion, Mad props to M2 for helping out the US scene so much. I personally have seen 5 of these members in action and they are some of the most talented people i've meet. Besides talent, they have also been leading the US scene for awhile. Can't wait to see some jams with these guys.
