Demon's Drills - Add On PDF Print E-mail

In the game add on, each player takes turns creating and mastering movement combinations while building off of each other’s ideas. At the end, a flowing collection of movements should link together without hesitations or other inefficiencies.

Click on "Read More" to view a complete guide to the game Add On.

Application: Add on is a great game to develop agility, foot placement, and the ability to create and perform complex movements. In addition, this game requires the practitioner to mimic movements of the other players in the game. Because the end combination of movement is a melting pot of all the players’ movement styles, each practitioner ends up practicing a wider variety of techniques.

Number of Players: 2-5 players

Obstacle and Equipment Checklist: For this game, you will need a small area that is dense with obstacles. Some areas that can be good are handicap ramps and playgrounds.

Preparing for the Game

  1. Designate a turn order for the players. This turn order must be followed for the entire game.
  2. Find a starting point from which the first movement will begin.

Playing the Game

  1. The first player creates the first movement.
  2. Going through the turn order, every player takes several turns until they can perform the movement well.
  3. Once everyone has performed the move well, the second player adds a second movement onto the first movement.
  4. Players take turns until everyone can perform the combination well.
  5. Going through the turn order, each player takes a turn at adding another movement to the combination. This is followed by everyone repeating the current combination to personal satisfaction.
  6. Once up to five movements, each player takes turns doing the combination. When a player has completed the combination with a level of mastery that they are happy with, that player can stop.
  7. Once all the players are done, start a new round and find a whole new set of movements to do!

Other Notes

  • As you practice the movements, attempt to get rid of any hesitations, stutter steps, or inefficiencies in movement. Always be thinking of ways to link the movements smoother than before.
  • While this game is rigid and uncreative due to its repetitive nature and set movements, there does lie a certain amount of creativity as well. Do not be afraid to experiment with different and creative transitions between movements.
  • If one player is not comfortable attempting a certain movement, they are allowed to modify the movement so that they can stay in the game. However, if a player does this, they should still end up in the same ending position as the other players.
  • If you mess up in the middle of a combination, do not give up! Collect yourself, refocus, and finish the rest of the movements.
  • This game can last for a long time while everyone tries to completely master the combination of movements. Make sure you bring water and allow for rest in between games because this game can turn into quite the cardio workout!

Variations

  • Add a theme to the movements. For example, focus on vaults or precision jumps.
  • Add rules to make it more challenging such as no touching the ground or only using your weak side.

Nice, we used to play add-on when we went climbing at the Rock Club. Much the same game, but I've never been able to play it with someone else.

Nice sounds cool, looks like more of a fun way to improve your techinique. All i need to do now is find a tracuer in my town.

Really nice video guys, very inspiring. You are both fluid and smooth, yet strong and solid. 8)

Looks good, might have to have a go! :p

I am inspired… Again.

Another possibility with the game is a Leap Frog variation. Same idea but you can go past 5 movements and just keep going. You're not doing the same thing every time but if everyone does a combination past the predecessor, you can easily go all around a playground and freak out all the parents =D

I saw these guys at gymnastics play add on but it was for tricking/gymnastics moves and then I thought "why not play add-on parkour style?" turns out someone else thought of the same thing :)
