This past weekend a man in Cairns, Australia fell from a rooftop down 8 meters. Luckily, he made it to the hospital in critical condition and is now stable. Owners of a local bar told police that they feared this man was involved in "Free-running" and the police did some investigation. The Australian Parkour Association was contacted and stated that they had no known traceurs in Cairns.
Regardless of whether parkour was involved or not, I wanted to highlight this news piece to remind you all of the grand danger involved when you mess around on rooftops. Parkour should NOT be practiced on rooftops - any of the things you do up there could easily be replicated at safe ground level.
Let me say that again:
ROOFTOPS ARE HORRIBLE PLACES FOR PARKOUR! STAY AWAY OR YOU MIGHT(!) COME FACE TO FACE WITH DEATH!
Here are the highlighted articles:
After some investigation the police discovered that the man was not
involved with parkour or free-running. Even though he wasn't involved,
this does speak for how parkour is being portrayed in the media -
people's first knee jerk reaction was to blame parkour and freerunning!
Remember this next time you think it'll be fun to play on rooftops and
try to actively persuade other traceurs from attempting rooftop work
unless you're highly skilled with many MANY years of training (and even
then, you still might die!)
Please please PLEASE Keep safe fellow traceurs and freerunners!!!
