Welcome to our site, we'd like you to have a good look at Parkour and Freerunning which are part sport, part art, and part discipline.  Please click "Read More" at the bottom of this blurb for more information and a great intro / start to Parkour and Freerunning.

Parkour itself contains very little if any acrobatics, it is about moving directly and effectively through your environment, training so that obstacles don't hinder your movement and even aid it. Picture a game of tag, you're being chased and turn a corner, there's a railing, do you give up, or go over the rail? If you've been practicing, you’re past the rail before you probably even realize it. The "cousin" of Parkour is called Free Running, Free running involves mostly similar movement, but a different intent. In Free running you are free to choose your own path through a space - so if you choose to do acrobatics because it is your way, then so be it. Back to our game of tag ... if you came to a 6' wall, you'd hop up and over it, whereas a freerunner doesn't have the "constraint" of moving with economy, they can choose to run two steps up a wall and then flip off of it, because Freerunning is about choice.Through diligent training you can work easily within your limits. The first things we learn, and that we practice over and over and over, are the landing and the roll , these two help us to learn to disperse energy from a drop. Even then, no matter how proficient, we recommend that high drops not be taken for the sake of doing it, Parkour can be done entirely at ground level, don’t let the videos fool you. As for the videos, there are generally two kinds ... people falling and crumpling into a horrible ball, I wish they had a tag that said how long they have been "practicing" Parkour, and people who have been practicing a long time and have become very skilled, who are doing things which are within THEIR limits, but would be very dangerous for other people. Again, I wish the videos had a tag of how long they have been practicing, IE don't try this in your first two years. Parkour can be a very fun, safe way to stay fit. For more info on Parkour as part of overall fitness check out Primal Fitness . For more info on Parkour, please see our FAQ , or at least read the select articles on the top right of the homepage before you watch the videos. at a minimum, if you'd like to try parkour, please read this .

Great job on showing the difference between parkour and freerunning. This article clearly explains the difference without confusing the reader.

It may be that 2 years is the "standard" but in the end, every person is different. Some people accomplish more in a couple of months than another person in one year. Its all based on PATIENCE! Great article!
