We unfortunately have no choice but to suspect foul play in the Picture of the Year contest. It's sad that people have decided to support their friends in a way that is outside the spirit of the contest, IE each APK member gets one vote per day. We are undecided how to treat this, but most likely APK staff and the Tribe will simply decide on a winner, that winner will get the K-SWISS prize as well as the APK prize. Read more to see the numbers behind the voting scandal.
Here's how it went:
jan 16 - tic-tac and wall escape are tied for first at around 30 votes. no other photo has more than 5 or so.
jan 17. - in 12 hours, wall escape goes from 30 votes to 75 votes.
jan 18 - handstand photo goes from almost no votes to over 100 votes.
We are not interested enough to check server logs for IP addresses and find out who is behind this, their shame leads to everyone else's loss, we can no longer have a community vote.

It's funny...but this is at least the third internet poll contest I've heard about this year that was hosed by improper voting.

I dunno about everyone else but I'd be much happier knowing that APK has chosen your picture has the best instead of yourself.

honestly I think APK deciding on best picture is the truly right way to go, yea it bites that the vote was ruined but at least this way we know for sure that it will be a fair and unbiased decision.

Holy sh!t, there are prizes? Honestly though, I've always had a hard enough time finding the current pics to vote on. Can't always tell which to vote on based on label dyslexia. Maybe it's for the best.

True. finding the pictures to vote on them is surprisingly confusing. You should be able to click on picture of the week and be taken right to the images and be able to vote on them there. just my 2cents

...a VERY good example of what competition does to people... (even with the confusing navigation I was able to award one-vote-and-only-one to "wall escape"...)

Wow, I noticed that too, I put down another vote the tic-tac to cat, but I realized already he had lost what with him at 45 and the competition at 85, I knew it was a little fishy.. to those involved, I am thoroughly disappointed with you. Was it worth it? You might not win anyways...

Perhaps the issue lies in the ability to vote without logging in, or even registering...
As a side note, it should be limited to one vote per poll instead of one per day.

I agree with jesta443. somebody could have easily used a dynamic proxy that changes twice a minute or something and voted. I am assuming that the once a day thing is ip based so that would completely bypass that. If it was cookie based, somebody could've just cleared their cookies a whole ton and voted up a storm.

I think the big problem is with kids who have access to school libraries and basically anywhere that has more than twenty community computers. A person could vote for the same picture 20 times every day using each computer. Freaking self-centered people. So much for community here!

Its not necessarily what COMPETITION does to people, thats where the people opposed to comps got it all wrong. We have a picture of the week comp every week and its fine. The issue lies in how shallow some will go for the prize at the end. That is the control, and even then MOST people here play fair.
