The audition took effect in first Down Town Honolulu on Dec 19th where 5 or the UCC member and 2 of the HIpk members came together as a team to find out who would get the chance to represent Hawaii's Parkour. The atmosphere was one of support and a fun and it went that way during the whole process. No competition tension between anyone. After all, regardless of who was to be selected it was all about finally given the chance to spread the word about PK in the island of Oahu.
It was awkward at first, we were offered an office space to perform our demonstration where all there was available for us was a table and even the walls were off limits. We did what we could and we kept it professional but fun. After the audition we all went around town to do what we do best, parkour all over and getting kicked out of places.
As expected, they were not very impressed, but thanks to the fact that one of the producers saw us afterwards practicing out on the street they gave us a call back, wanting to meet with us one more time but this time to go out on the street to see what we were capable of on our element "The Concrete Jungle"
They called, Kyle, Jason, Pete, Adam and I back. Only Jason and Pete and I could make it, there was someone else, who unfortunately we didn't get the chance to talk to due to a very competitive blocked impression he gave to us.
So once again we met with the staff where we were warned that because everything was going to be perform on the streets they were not liable for whatever could happen to us, then asked if that was fine with us. Kyle and I looked at each other, chuckle for a second and said to ourself... pffssss, like we are worry about that. Jason very supportive commented "I really don't think these guys would care" the other guy was a little concerned but at the end he also agreed to do it.
So out we go. Performing several techniques around the block, a few jumps/vaults over someone bending over (you will see why in the commercial), some minor drops, a rail balancing (Kyle got very intimate and in touch with the rail after he slipped, if you know what I mean, but he played it out GREAT) and a couple wall work, where we were asked to stop by one of the producers who was getting a little freaked out, I guess we have to refrain from inviting her to one of our real practice session. Mind you all what we did was having to hold something on each hand.
So we head back to the studio, we acted a very small roll part that will also be part of the commercial and that was it. Again all fun, team work at all times, supporting each other and having a good time.
So I received a call yesterday, I was informed that I was selected for the PK roll, and that there was a 1% chance the corporation might change their mind but not to worry. Also that the director wanted to meet with me before Tuesday to get some more ideas and insights of what to do for the commercial. Shooting day has not yet be set but it will be within the last week of this month of the beginning of the next. I'll keep you posted and also will ty to get a copy of whatever they shoot for us to keep. |
