Recently Jason Elwood Hanna "Kasper" from Zanshin South in the Bahamas, Jesse Danger "Hardcore Traceur" from New York, and Zach Cohn "Happydud" of MD but currently in school at RIT came for a visit for a few days to Primal Fitness in Washington DC. Primal Fitness is the world's first and still only dedicated full time Parkour / Freerunning training center. Kasper and HCT stayed in the gym for a few nights, and had what looks like a pretty fun training session. Check out the video and please "read more" to see Kasper's story which starts out "So here I am, Holy bejeezus! Es mucho frio" ...
Trip Memo NY/DC by Jason Elwood Hanna (Kasper) "So here I am, Holy bejeezus! Es mucho frio" The very first thoughts when i stepped off of my Delta flight into Laguardia, Queens Airport. Flying down over Manhattan I had no idea what was in store for me, for you see my team Lucien Seymour, Deangelo Clarke, Jeremy Johnson and myself Jason Elwood Hanna have always kept an eye on NY we all planned to visit and meet the people, the tracuers, the community leaders and calculate our future in the process. How does New York strengthen parkour?, How Does DC?, How does Florida? Indeed how does the entire United States fit into this equation of a bright future where Movement and it's practioners has built a healthy community, healthy networks and the progression of this phenomenon that is Parkour, that is freerunning and basically that is us. Unfortunately it was this time around, that only i can afford such leisure to visit New York, and DC even with numerous tiny Injuries I had gotten right before the visit in my knees. All to see what was in store for myself as well as the Zanshin Team in the future. I was met by the awesome Jesse (HCT- Hardcore Tracuer), the great Max (BNP- but we all know im the true Ninja Pimp here :P) the magnificently Leo Xavier (X) and the hilariously sarcastic Mike (Pyro). They all represent different groups in the area and they do so quite well i might add. After a few games of Movie Trivia meets Education; a new game I had never heard of before, I was quickly introduced to the architecture, the weather and the people of the Area. Im not sure how to explain the events but each day I found myself learning something new about parkour just by being in a new city with new people who train differently, with different architecture and weather and all the reasons and techniques why you must adapt in a new place. It was an awesome experience, one that I will take back with me and exploit to its fullest when I return with the group. I met and trained with very high potentialed and talented people like Vert, Artfel, Strider, Jin of Jersey, of course the fabulous J skills, Bo and the list goes on. These are all people i had some knowledge before prior and it was truly exciting to me to see where they go. I had a great training session with Exo and the sunday workshops where i can see that they do pay off with those starting Parkour (Hey Hey Jessica). Jesse and myself wanted to do some traveling as well so we took a weekend trip to see our good buddy M2 and the new and improved Primal Fitness Centre and Program. Now for me this is where the trip took great interest, but unfortunately at this time the injury i had before visiting the area I got back in The Bahamas totally kicked in. I was sad not to do just as much as i wanted to but I must say the Gym was wonderful, and M2 did a great job in just 3 weeks setting up crazy contraptions and planning bigger than life plans for the Gym so it was all too good and inspiring to see a good idea take off. I cannot express the gratitude i have for Mark for taking care of me really while I was in DC, we had great sushi, a great time watching Survivor (poor James) and just really good outings. The DC scene was also very friendly and thank them for having me, Joshua we need to have a sword fight and I will deffinately give a go at your Air Alert plan Gearsighted :P. I dont want to write too much and so I tried to summarize the experience as best I can but there were just so many things that happened and indeed things that I have learnt, even after training in serveral things for 7 - 8 years. So again Id like to thank all those I was fortunate to train with, and when i do return with the Kaizen (Zanshin South Family) in full health I hope we can all tear up those garsh darn tall buildings hahahahaha. And so thats it, my memo of a good experience Peace out Ya'll. |
