My goal with this video was to show, not the extreme moves nor the
exhaustive conditioning and drilling that go into successful parkour,
but the actual feeling you get when moving and training, especially by
yourself.  It's often not loud and exciting and fast-paced, but quiet
and peaceful and smooth ... you see yourself taking multiple paths,
imagine how you will position yourself in the air, and in that last
moment before you start to run, the whole world seems to stand still,
waiting for you to Go.  I wanted to use the tripod because it allowed
me to show that stillness ... in most of the shots, I am the only thing
moving through a completely static environment, and to me that really
captures what it is to be a traceur.

I spent three years on this project, working almost entirely alone,
filming only on cloudy days and wearing the same clothes in every shot
- in the summer, when it was 100 degrees out and weeks would pass
between cloudy days, I often felt like giving up, but I really believed
that I had something new and unusual to show people, so I kept plugging
away at it.  The project was a fantastic way to focus my parkour,
because in order to make it well-rounded, I had to balance my actual
training, and bring up some of my weaker skills; at the same time, in
order to get some of my "dream shots," I really had to buckle down on
my conditioning and strength training, to break some significant
barriers.  Some of the moves in this video were envisioned three years
ago, and only became possible for me in the last few months.

If I had to offer one piece of advice to anyone, in their training, or
in making their own video, it would be to truly take time out of the
equation.  If you have a vision, if you have a plan, don't sacrifice it
just because it seems too far off, too difficult.  Parkour is a
lifelong discipline, and there is no reason to rush - and the same
holds true for a video.  The internet is full of them, no one will
notice or complain if you take an extra year before releasing your own
- but that extra year could make all the difference in terms of how
close you come to really saying something meaningful.

Oh my god man, that was amazing the emotion you put into that video I felt watching it. It felt like I was right there with you. I have been training for parkour for a few months now and to feel what you felt making that video is something I aspire to. Thankyou.

Wow, what can I say? The editing was masterful, the philosophy was well thought out, and the execution of the movements was polished. I can only imagine how many hours of throw away footage you have. It's very clear that you used only the best clips and didn't force anything just because you wanted it to work. This is something to truly be proud of, my friend! Trust that I will take many training and editing cues from you for my future works. Thank you for your patience and focus. This is, for lack of a better word, inspiring! I hope we can train together sometime soon.

Beautiful edit, effective moves, very nice. One of those videos you actually watch more than once because it's excellent - not just to see the big move.

TK, you have no idea how much I love this video. :-) By parkour standards, I'm probably waaaaaaay over the hill, but for me, it's all about the joy of just MOVING. You captured that beautifully, and I can't thank you enough. I've now got something to fight back with when my 40+ year old body is trying to tell me to sit on my ass. I'll be up and flying in no time!

Thank you!

First of all, let me say that the message at the beginning of the video was exceptional and very inspiring. And the editing was breathtaking. Complete GENIUS! You have a definite future in this sport, and if not that you're pretty handy with those editing skills of yours. I hope I get that good one day. You are an inspiration. Stay safe ad good luck with your Parkour.

Awesome! I'm not sure how old you are but I'm sure your a lot younger than me (39). You're teaching yourself a lot of great lessons that apply to all aspects of life. Congratulations on being on the right track. You've got a bright future!

This is... incredible. I feel as if i can look up to this video in both ways of being an editor and a traceur. I give one piece of advice though, not to talk down, but in a constructive form. You have the fluidity of parkour down, but you should work on a more efficient run technique. I can see you are able to run fast, but you use more energy than you have to look at examples of pole vaulter sergey bubka. It will so you the most efficient running method.

Definately one of the best parkour videos I've seen, the artistic angles worked great with your overall theme. I loved the use of the fisheye + tripod (You're idea of the world standing still is great + focuses on how in tune to the environment and their movements a traceur is.) Good work, keep it up - truly inspiring.

31. 02-10-2008 08:21

I am new to the discipline of Parkour, and I have to say, you are an inspiration. I can tell by your words above, as well as in the film, that you take very seriously the lifestyle and the commitment that is necessary to be as skillful as you are. Thank you for your honesty and for giving us a glimpse of the world your hard work and dedication has opened up for you!

32. 02-16-2008 20:30
