Parkour and Denver Public Schools PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 24 August 2007

Today, kannagisai and I (Demon) presented parkour to Skyland Community High School in Denver, Colorado. After, the principal saw the recent parkour article in the Rocky Mountain News, he invited us to present parkour to his students.

We jumped at the opportunity and this morning, gave a short talk about parkour and showed a couple videos. We then led the students to a nearby playground to demonstrate some of the movements. The whole presentation was received very well and it was very exciting to see the positive reactions and excitement from some of the students.

In a separate development, COPK is in talks with another Denver Public School, the Odyssey School (k-8), to start a parkour program this fall. Skyland High School is looking to collaborate with this program until we can build some steam and experience to introduce a "Jump Denver"-like program here in the city. Arthur, the principal from Skyland, has experience in starting similar youth enrichment programs in Denver and is very excited at the prospect of getting more youth involved with parkour. The pieces are in place and the hard work required to make it a reality has begun...

...one high school at a time!

Keep spreading it amongst the schools; it's a good outlet to mass-inform the future traceurs of the US.

That's great! IT's good to see Parkour developing into where people will start growing up with it and thus it being more widely accepted as a practiced discipline, like Martial Arts, or Dance.

Im glad certain schools are accepting parkour with open arms. Its alot better than people who yell at you for just doing a monkey vault on a rail.

Well done! :D It is my hope to get something like that going here. My current school seems intrigued by parkour, at least; maybe in a year or so they'll be willing to give it a try.

Outstanding. Keep us updated on how things go! :grin
