Parkour Training Helps Disadvantaged Kids in the UK PDF Print E-mail

This memo just came through from Dan Edwardes, a training, movement, philosphy practitioner. It talks about Julie Angel's newest video on Parkour training for kids from tough areas ...

Updated: whole video here. We haven't seen it yet, let us know what you think.

I am writing on behalf of Julie Angel, who has asked me to let you and
the parkour community know that the latest trailer clips from her new
documentary, 'Jump Westminster' - the most in-depth study to date of the
potential of parkour to help children from disadvantaged inner-city areas
to find a positive outlet and expression for their energies, have today
been placed on Youtube for public viewing.

The documentary will receive its premiere screening on May 14th at the
Intitute of Contemporary Arts in London.

The video can be found and viewed here:

That is a perfect way to segue kids from any normal PE class right in to PK without the activity being intimidating. Even the simplest maneuvers of PK are useful just in basic coordination and balancing training. Somebody should pick that ball up and develop an "entry level" program suited to any and all ages and ability levels & see about incorporating it into a broad PE curriculum for schools. It would be great!

test (Sorry, just checking my settings... tried to post a comment to the WOD and it got goofy. Sorry to be a nuisance)

To post something relevant, since I'm here: Thumbs-up for using physical activity to engage and inspire disadvantaged kids! And I'd love to see PK in public school PE. *wheels start turning*

I think its a great idea and should be brought to american schools and other schools acroos the U.K. It is a great way to get kids to meet their P.e, requirments and also have fun.I beleive that this should be introduced to all highschools throughout the U.S.A and U.K :grin

This is a REALLY great video.

It would be really awesome if they made like, a five minute version, that gave the same definition, and showed the authority figures talking about how it helps kids and stuff, and that could be the go-to video when it comes to the question "what's Parkour?"

I'm already referring beginning traceurs to this video. I think it's very useful to show them how to train.
