A good, old-fashioned rest day...

Yet another rest day. We're nearing the end of our gymnastics-specific month, so it would be a good idea to start incorporating some of the skills into your everyday training outside of the workout. One of the most important skills is the handstand, which requires no equipment to perform and improves your balance, coordination, strength and spatial awareness. Today, shoot for 5:00 total inverted in the handstand, and make it a habit every day.

Remember also that on of the most important aspects of recovery is your diet. Shoot for basing your intake today on as many whole, fresh fruits and vegetables as you can get your hands on, along with lean protein and nuts and seeds. Drink lots of water, and try your best to get at least 8 hours of sleep. This will go a long way towards keeping you healthy and injury free.

Another great thing about rest days is that you are free to work your mental faculties a bit more, whether it's within your thinking about fitness, or in any other field. An important issue with our workout is maximum intensity and power output WITHIN THE CONSTRAINTS OF PROPER FORM AND EXECUTION. By creating the exercise descriptions (which will include picture and video demonsrations soon) I have done all I can to help you get the form of each exercise correct. Beyond that, it's a matter of holding yourself to a standard to perform the movements with form and function first, speed and intensity second. A great article from a great site will expand upon this point. Remember, that as traceurs, we aspire for virtuosity in our movement, so we should do the same in our fitness program!
