Where do I start? How about 8:00AM, my wife calls, I've been asleep for a measly 4 1/2 hours after a night of well, lots of fluids, "hydrating" if you will. If you can see the time on the DB story from yesterday, it was posted at 3:30 AM. So anyway, my wife says "Parkour is going to be on the Today Show" I'm thinking "I'm tired". I even tried to go back to sleep, but of course I was drawn to my duty to alert the PK world ... so I come to the site to try to make a news story .. SITE'S DOWN! $H%#!! ...
What an incredible experience, meeting the man who started it all! David Belle was in NY for the US premier of District B13 (English subtitled Banlieu 13). David, Cyril, and Pierre were extremely generous in the amount of time they hung out for photos, autographs, questions, and just hanging out. Our thanks to them for just being so damn cool. Thanks again to Magnolia pictures for making this happen. Read more for the group shot.
UPDATE: 2 days left to get your photos in! We've finally got the Photo Gallery back online and to celebrate we're giving away two APK "Classic" T-shirts a week for the rest of May! Add your photo to this weeks (5-14-06) POTW gallery to enter. Please read more for the fine print.
No, not on an airplane ... Demon and Christopher Robin are featured in an article in this month's 5280, Denver's "Mile High" magazine. Despite calling parkour a mix of breakdancing and skateboarding, the article does actually take a creative stance and very positive view of Parkour, Demon and a prominent Denver architect, Martha L. Bennet review some Denver hotspots from their unique perspectives. Read on for a scan of the article...
Meeting David Belle will be a personal dream-come-true. I remember very clearly the first time I saw Rush Hour and thought "there is more to the world than I currently think". From there my searches for David Belle lead to French message boards which were not even translatable (imagine trying to translate our message boards to a foreign language?) Later, I would search again and find Urban Freeflow, which would lead me to eventually start American Parkour in efforts to help spread the art and practice of Parkour.
David Belle and Cyril Raffaelli will be in the US next week as part of the promotion for District B13. There will be a small screening in NY on Monday night with David and Cyril in attendance as well as Pierre Morel, the director of the film. Unfortunately all spots are taken. Asa of NYParkour did a great job organizing the unannounced, limited-attendance event.
From there, the guys will head to California where people can see them very briefly at the Hollywood & Highland center at 1:00 PM on the 18th. There will be a short demo, with no time for them to meet people before they're whisked off to the next part of their busy schedule!!
Cliff "Cake" Kravit has been appointed as the first American representative for the PArkour Worldwide Association PAWA. PAWA is the official worldwide organization headed up by Parkour's founder David Belle. Way to go Cliff!!
It's back. With a total of 14 hours to bring it back, it was one of the longest battles in bringing the site back to life. We had to do an entire rebuild of the gallery in a new installation and database, so all of the images are now credited to "Gallery Administrator". We'll be working to set member galleries to their proper owners, but will leave the Pic of the Week entries unless you email to tell us which picture(s) you sent.
This feature is meant for all users to share their images, please make a gallery here and post instead of posting in the forums, as your images will be permantly on display here. Read more for how to create your own gallery.
The Photo Gallery is available in the Top Menu and in the Media Menu on the left.
We are proud to announce the publishing of our very own fitness newsletter, which will give you email access to the Workout of the Day along with other useful features. In the future we will see this resource being utilized for a more expansive fitness publication for the Parkour community.
Registered users can subscribe by going to "Newsletters" in the "My APK" menu. Click the check box next to the WOD newsletter and you will be added to the mailing list. Consider this our "beta version" of the newsletter process, and don't hesitate to let us know if you have any problems!
Please send any questions or suggestions for content by using the site's private message feature to Gearsighted.
Banlieu 13 will be coming to the US soon! Everyone is familiar with the opening action scene, considered by many one of the greatest actions scenes in any movie to date. The film is opening on June 2nd in about 20 cities and will expand to more cities in the following weeks. Magnolia films is promoting the film in the US, and have even thrown up some links to local PK sites on the District B13 official website.
Slowly, oh so slowly, we are rebuilding the features of americanparkour.com. Last night / today we have added a new Private Messaging package on the main page. There is no integration yet to have private messages on a tab in "My APK" (My Details) but there should be one in development.
We have also recovered the blogs and the blogger, this does integrate, so registered users can read any publicly published blog. You can also see a summary of someone's blog by looking them up in the Member Directory (under Features Menu) and choosing the "Blog" tab.
Check out the features of the Member Directory (in the Features Menu) and My APK - "My Details", it's a very powerful tool for linking up people in a community, and that's what APK is all about. Add some info today so other traceurs in your area can find you, that's how we all got started!
