Atlas

Keith Horan a traceur and plumber from new york city recently got a great opportunity due to his awesome parkour movement.

.“Once you start, it’s addictive,” he said. “There’s a rush that comes from it. It changes your view of the world. You don’t see things the same. You see a wall and think ‘I can climb up that.’”

Horan has been practicing parkour, also called free-running, for only three years. But his virtuosity has landed him in an independent short film called “Atlas,” which wrapped up production a few weeks ago.

Nadia Lesy, 36, of Ridgewood, who directed the film, said it depicts Greek mythology through parkour movements. She said she cast Horan as Zeus, the god of sky and thunder, because of his powerful grace.

“He embodies the strength, discipline and courage with his manners and physicality,” she said. “He’s so natural. It’s unusual to find someone like Keith.”

“If you have fear that’s when you make mistakes and get hurt,” he said. “You only have seconds and they seem like hours when you’re doing it. You zone everything out.”

Horan’s older brother Ed, 30, a security guard from Rockaway said his brother has good instincts.

“My brother pretty much succeeds at everything he tries, so that helps,” he said.

So far, Horan has not suffered serious injuries, only spraining his ankle a couple of times.

“I just try to be careful when I do anything,” he said.

Horan, a fitness hound, first received recognition with his 2007 ab workout video that went viral, scoring about 5 million views on YouTube so far. People now recognize him from online parkour films he appears in, he said.

“My girlfriend says I’m a celebrity because people come up to me and say they know me from the videos,” he said. “I just love fitness. It’s a passion.”

New York Parkour, an organization of practitioners and enthusiasts, has taken notice of Horan’s electric style.

“Keith has incredible control over his movements,” said Owais Khan, a spokesman for the group. “He moves with great power and has awesome bar skills.”

Keith routinely practices on the Rockaway boardwalk and Roosevelt Island.

Horan and his fellow practitioners, known as traceurs, can be seen doing parkour in “Atlas,” which is slated for a January 2013 release.
