Sometimes I think that a parody of democracy could be more dangerous than a blatant dictatorship, because that gives people an opportunity to avoid doing anything about it. -Aung San Suu Kyi

Seattle Parkour Summit 2012

The Seattle Parkour summit was this past weekend. There were tons of great speakers and a great competition.

Ben Musholt the writer at Parkour Parkour was able to attend a day of the summit. He did a great job picking some highlights and it sounds like he learnd a lot.

After the competition people were split into three groups. Advanced (> 4 years of training), Intermediate (2-3 years of training), and Beginners.

Here are some highlights from two seminars that Ben took park in.

“The ground doesn’t hit you, you hit the ground.”  You are the one who controls how hard of an impact you make with the ground during a fall.  Hard or soft, it’s up to you to determine what sort of a fall you take. - From Ukemi-The art of falling taught by Rafe Kelly

"given a single obstacle, there are always a myriad number of ways to train on it and that you should push yourself out of your normal routine.   Rather than just doing the same move over and over on an obstacle, mix things up and challenge yourself to come up with creative ways to utilize it." - From Ryan Ford teaching about parkour vision.

Some of the topics disscused were the always popular Ukemi seminar about falling, creativity and Parkour Vision with Ryan Ford, and Power in Parkour. Other guest speakers included Frosti Zernow, Beth Kelly, Justin Sweeny, and many others.
