I was just practicing doing different vaults over picnic tables and rolls the gazebo bout 300ft from my apartment. 15 minutes later the local pd was there telling me to call it a night b/c they already had 3 calls. Officer laughed when he asked to see my ID, read the name realized my dads his Sgt.
"Hello Avon Police Department"
"There is a crazy man with a mohawk running and jumpng in a park."
That's great..haha. We have similar situations with getting called on campus here. One time in particular I remember we were out, just basically kongs and monkey vaults off maybe 3 foot high concrete ..things. Also jumping laterally about 5 feet over a water feature near a building (concrete to concrete). Nothing major. My friend did a backflip off of a 6 foot sign, which of course is Free Running, but my point...someone called us in for being "reckless." We noticed a cop pull into a parking lot near the building and just wait there for literally 5-10 minutes just watching us from about 300 feet away. She hesitantly got out and after we explained who we were, she said "oh okay, well just don't climb buildings and we won't care" and left smiling because she knew how rediculous calling us in was.
Another time we were practicing near a building and someone called in a bunch of skateboarders. Cops come around we were like "aww crap we're screwed." But no, he comes out with his partner and says "someone called in a bunch of skateboarders, but i don't see any boards. Just be careful" and he left
I wish some university officials were more like this..
My city's like that, too. I've been stopped a couple of times doing rolls and balancing on play structures, the only time I was told to stop was when I climbed a storage shed at an elementary school (it was about 8 feet tall, concrete and perfect for practicing wall runs). They just told me to stop it after I explained what I was doing because somebody called in for trespassing, and even though it was a public school, randomly showing up over the weekend
is trespassing.
As long as your city's police are clean and someone in your group's a good talker, you shouldn't have any problems with the law. Gotta agree that cops showing up every 5 minutes is annoying, though.
