Yeah I think there was a thread that had this in it earlier where we decided we'd boycott it, is that still on? I still will either way. That's not the way we want parkour shown to mass audiences. We're not cat-burglars, we're not thieves, we're traceurs. We strive to be disciplined and we promote personal improvement. The last thing we want is to show traceurs thieving, imagine the ramifications in the U.S. culture. Right now, we're viewed with a minor sense of awe or a passive sense of apathy -- I don't want to see no jumping signs, and I don't want people thinking I'm training to trespass or steal from them.

Interestingly enough, the movie Yamakasi was also rather robbery-oriented, though that was for a more noble reason. And District B13 started off with stolen goods too. Guess we're stuck stealing stuff.

Both Yamakasi and Banlieu 13 (stealing drugs from dealers to keep your area clean, come on... goods...) are veeeerrry different from this. Who knows though, maybe we'll get enough publicity before it comes out to where the public already has a good notion of pk and the movie will flop. *crosses fingers*

Good lord, that's just what we need. It just proves that society would rather look at the downside of things and make something out to be evil just because it's not a part of the status quo rather than take the time to learn about it and get a better understanding of things. Most traceurs I've met are some of the most laid-back, polite people I've ever met, not burglars.
I'm not saying that every traceur out there has nothing but the best intentions at heart and I can understand trying to create a good storyline, but seriously Hollywood...think about the people you're affecting with your nonsense. It's bad enough that there are some spots back home they don't like you pking in. I agree with Nom, I don't want to see No Jumping signs plastered everywhere and being harassed by people whenever I find some random place that I'm allowed to do it in.

The way I see it, there really is nothing we can do about this. Once Hollywood sets in motion, nothing can stop them. Plus we have to remember, we are not the first group to be horribly misrepresented by the media. I am still actually going to see the movie however (mostly because I always like to get an overall picture). If we want to try at least get a little attention, we could see the movie and if it doesn't check out with us, post reviews or something on websites like RottenTomatoes that get lots of attention from moviegoers. Point out things that are misrepresented and the like.
On a side note, I'm HOPING that the plot synopsis is misinterpreted by the people on here. Maybe the cop sucks at catching thieves and such, so they refer him to people that can train him to become more agile and quick so that he can catch these people that elude him.
And really, we should try not to get in a panic about such things. If somebody sees us practicing and says, "oh you saw that parkour movie?", just politely explain to them a little about what parkour is about and what its not about. People tend to respond very positively to this discipline.

Yeah it's been true forever, doesn't take away from how true it is now.
In any case I suppose I have to resign myself to the fact that yes this movie is going to come out and yes people are going to assume that's why I started parkour. It's frustrating, to say the least, to have have something I dedicate so much of my time to turned into a Hollywood fad. I almost don't even want to see the new wave of traceurs this will bring about. I don't mean to be elitist, and I hope that everyone who does start because of the film will learn through research what parkour is really about. But simply dealing with the backlash of this cultural piece of garbage is going to be a task for all of us. Look at what happened to break-dancing. I don't want parkour to get "served." All I can see coming from this movie is a huge influx of misinformed people and competitive ideals. I like parkour the way it is, I understand things change, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
All of this is just how I'm feeling right now, I don't mean to rant and rave I just feel disillusioned with the society we live in. Maybe it won't be so bad, and I do hope I've misinterpreted the IMDB post on plot-line.

I say, we all go out to the premiere of the film, clad in APK(or your local group) attire. We could spread the word of Parkour in a positive light to those who've never seen it. Maybe even give a bit of a demo and recruit some new American traceurs. At least, that's what I'm gonna do.
