If you had to give an estimate as to how many traceurs were in America, what would it be? 10,000? 20,000? More?

LoL... I'd say less than that. Let's say that the average of an active community is 60. Then we factor in how many large communities there are.. DC, NY, CO, CA, FL, WA, NE.. We'll double CA's number because it's so large.. And say give an extra 60 for any missed community. That gives us 540.. We'll then average smaller communities at 20, and we'll SQUARE that because there's no way to tell how many smaller communities there are. That gives us another 400. We haven't even broke 1000 yet. At maximum, I'd say there are 3000 traceurs active in America, and probably over 10,000 interested parties. But I'm willing to bet that there are fewer than 1500 active traceurs in the US.

I don't know. There are 29,590 members on this forum, so at least that many people were interested at one point. Let's say 1/4 of those semi-actively practice, roughly 7,500. Plus I'm sure there are a number of people who practice parkour who aren't on APK, let's call that 500. I'd put it at around 8,000 in America.

I'd say the number that arent on APK is much higher than 500. I met people at this gym all the time that aren't on APK.

Oh, there's tons that aren't on APK. Some only go to .Net, some go to PKNA, some don't go onto any forums at all. Some only post on their local forums.. But if we're talking about active traceurs, and by this I mean traceurs who train at LEAST once a week, and who engage in the community at large in some way, then I don't think we're going to get a very high number. If you include casual athletes who show up every few months, or only in the summers, you might get a substantial number.. But I'm willing to bet that at least 10% of the APK members who have registered were never even interested in Parkour, and registered to look for traceurs for business opportunities or whatnot. Probably more than 50% only had a cursory interest and gave it up rather quickly (or never tried it), and a substantial number were probably active for a year or even more and gave it up entirely.. Then factor in the casuals who stay with it, but don't really dedicate themselves.. and it becomes more of a hobby or a pastime.. I don't know. I think you guys are overestimating by quite a large number. The largest community in North America is in Ontario, at 300+ active, but most communities aren't anywhere near that large.

I'm not sure anyone here really has the resources to gather any kind of accurate estimate for that to tell you the truth. If you want a small idea, you could look at the amount of members on this forum; but there are way more than that I'm sure.

According to ESPN and whatever resources they used to find the number of American tracuers, they figured it to be over 40,000.

a lot. soon there will be more, so the estimates are not needed. every week there is someone new coming into the world of parkour. we give them time, they give us theirs.

If I had to make a wild guess, I would say there are somewhere between 10 and 20,000 people in the US participating in either Parkour, Free Running, or similar activities (some without even knowing it!).

I too, am with animus. I friend of mine asked me how many traceurs were in florida. I said about 200, at an absolute maximum. If you extrapolate that data, proportionate to state populations, allowing for larger communities, as animus did, you get a similar number.
