Gosh am I beat, and it's only wednesday!

Got out of the office late on tuesday... just late enough to miss my Crossfit training (as has become customary on tuesdays for some reason), so I headed to the gym and did:

Deadlifts
135x10x1
225x5x1
245x5x1
265x1x1
225x5x1

5 rounds of
 - Dumbell Push-Press with 40 lbs
 - Declined sit-ups, sets of 50, 25, 20, 15 and 10

Today I woke up and did my morning version og GTG PU, doing 5 sets of 6 in about the span of an hour. When I got to work, I realized my eyes were glazed over and I had no energy whatsoever. Still, I'll make the most of these next 2 or 3 days. Hopefully there'll be time to rest in Venezuela

Was going to meet-up with a new parkour buddy yesterday at 5:00, so at 4:00 asked boss if it was OK to leave... Long story short, I ended up cancelling and leaving the office at 7:00... We'll try again today

Got home, some hussle going on... yeap... no chance of training today

This morning did my usual 30 pull-ups and did two sets of 20 push-ups. Surprisingly, no shoulder issues. I think it's going to be safe to start incorporating push-ups... maybe GTGs or 100 push-ups for breakfast

what happened to you?

Hey, Chris... Sorry... I thought you knew I was headed to Venezuela for a few days.

Internet access was limited, so I didn't update my journal. I did, however, manage to do 3 WODs in 10 days (my buddies there were all over me, so I couldn't break away for the time needed to train)

1 Max Burpees in 20 minutes: 97
1 45 minute mountain run
1 Max Burpees in 20 minutes: 94

Place was up in the mountains, so oxygen played a huge factor in performance. I was feeling tired all day and no amount of coffee could get rid of that. Also, the water there really did a number on my stomach. Been taking a lot of Pepto-Bismol

It's great to be back home!

Been down with a pretty bad stomach virus

Yesterday I had a scary episode and decided it was time to see a doctor. The theory is that while on my trip, I had some water which had some traces of raw sewage. Blood tests as well as other samples will confirm.

Yesterday I only had some chicken soup, which I ended up puking. No energy, not even to crawl out of bed, not even to lift the phone and call the doctor... yeah, it was nasty. Today I'm a lot better and wanted to let you guys in on why I haven't been logging... this has been going on for the past 10 days or so

THanks, bro... feeling a lot better today. I finally had a normal meal today and probably will resume training... maybe a 2 mile run or something, just to keep it safe

I feel for you buddy.  My whole family got Cryptosporidium last year from a swimming pool.  Worse month of our life.  I also have a friend who is in the army who got some sort of stomach bacteria a few months ago when he went to South America.  He said it was so nasty the only reason he didn't shoot himself is he didn't have enough energy to stand up and get his gun.  He did lose some weight though.  So maybe this was a blessing in disguise to help you lose a few extra pounds  Wink

Crossfit got cancelled today, but I decided to head to the park anyway and do some parkour training together with working on the kip

Took it real easy since my shoulders are still not ready for anything major. Did some monkeys onto a table. Didn't even attempt to make it over, I could feel my shoulders might not handle it. After about 20 minutes of that, I went to a nice rail for some cat-balancing

Did quite a bit of cat-balancing. A nice lady, maybe in her 50s ran by asking whether I was trying to kill myself. 2 minutes later, I had her cat balancing with me. It was hillarious!

Took the back trail and discovered a really awesome place to train. I realized how bad my back yard training had been since I got accostumed to the obstacles there, and anything a little different made me feel uncomfortable. The good thing is that in this park I have it all in one nice spot!

Did a few vaults around this railing complex, which is really a long wheelchair access, and then headed to the pull-up bars. Tried doing some kipping, but my shoulders had had enough; park was closing in 10 minutes anyway, so I called it a day

Yeah, the worse is pretty much over and I'm doing my CF training today. I did lose 2 lbs through the whole ordeal, but I felt exactly like your buddy. I didn't even want to lift the phone to call the doctor. And being at the doc's office was a nightmare; it was packed and I kept doing the gentleman thing by giving up my chair, even tho I was dying... I think everyone there noticed, cause I kept getting stares... well... I was nearly passing out too, so I guess they were thinking "let's get ready to catch this guy when he falls over"

It's been about 2 weeks since I've done anything (burpee wods and running not included, last one of which was done about 10 days ago), so yesterday I hit the garage and did a few chin-ups and dips... YES! DIPS! First time I was able to do them since I injured my shoulders again... no pain whatsoever... Guess I'm ready to get back in the groove. It was good to wake muscles up again and get them ready for today

Well, saturday we headed to Mario The Baker's, an italian restaurant my dad used to take me to when I was a kid (about 30 yrs ago). Needless to say, I pigged out, but it was well deserved as my friday's WOD looked like this:

Teams of two.  One team member performed squats until the other member completed the following:

25m Sprint
10 Push-ups
25m Bear Crawl back to start (Bear crawl = QM)
Then the members would switch places.  We did this for 15 minutes.  After a 3 minute rest, we proceeded to run 8 tabata intervals (20 seconds run, 10 seconds rest for a total of 4 minutes).

What a way to get back in the game!

Over the weekend, I did GTG pull-ups, and a few dips here and there to get those rotator cuffs back in shape

I also mowed the lawn, which had gotten up to about a foot high because I fertilized it before heading to Venezuela and it had not stopped raining. I split it between 2 days, and just yesterday it took me about 4 hours just to do the back part. Definitely the worse it has been since I bought the place 3 yrs ago.

After that, I had some family over for another Taco pig-out. In spite of all this, my pants feel even looser than on friday, so I guess it's all good

It was pouring last night, so I figured my CF workout would get cancelled and headed to the gym instead... It didn't  Roll Eyes

Not a total loss, though. I took advantage of the opportunity to try to get my kipping technique down. I am now doing 3 kips in a row before I start swinging all over the place.

After about 10-15 minutes of that, I did my workout. Because of all the shoulder issues, I had not done anything specifically for shoulders in a while, so I decided to do some thrusters combined with bent over barbell rows

4 rounds of:
1 set with 95 lbs, 3 with 115 lbs
Thrusters: 7, 6, 4, 4
Bent Over Barbell Rows: 8, 6, 6, 6

I had some time left, so I did some bench press

- 1 warmup with 135 lbs (uh-oh, barely could do 10 reps, and arms were shaking. THIS CAN'T BE RIGHT!!!)
- 1 set with 175 lbs (yeah, I did have the audacity to add 40 lbs after that scary first set)
- 1 set of 2 with 215 lbs
- 1 set of 4 with 195 lbs

I was somewhat disappointed. I was expecting a drop because I haven't done any bench work in about a couple of months, then I remembered that I did the thrusters and I must have been pretty taxed, so I pat myself on the back and called it a day.

This morning I resumed GTG pull-up training. did 4 sets of 6 (forgot to do the last one on my way out). I'll probably do more tonight

Did Fight Gone Bad last night. Although my score was a measly 178, I was happy that I finished it with no issues. Last time I did FGB, which was about 2 months ago, I had to abort after my first exercise due to an abrupt and excruciating headache.

That being said, my score was so far below the other guys, I know I have to raise the bar, although I don't know how I'll do it... when I finished, my heartrate was at 182 BPM, and I felt I was in real trouble!

THis morning, did a few pull-ups (4 sets of 6). Today I'm going to start marathon training. I figure only 2 months worth of it should set me too far back in my training

Ran 2.5 miles last night.

My average speed was 11:34/mi and my max heartrate got to 165 BPM, which wasn't at all alarming since it reached 184 BPM when doing FGB.

In the end, my knee joints were feeling tired and all it took was a disconsiderate idiot in a hummer who couldn't park and didn't let me by to call it a day... alas... there will be other opportunities

Today did a bit og GTG pull-ups with GTG dips

Did a 2 mile run on saturday. My average speed was 11:54 this time, but because there were a lot of idiots crossing in front of me with their cars, and one nice lady who let her two dogs, one of which was an English Mastive, off the leash. I had to stop in my tracks when I saw that big thing coming at me. Sure I could have done something to get away, but poor little Maya doesn't do PK training, so I had to do the more cautious thing and face the friggin monster!

After about a minute or so of: "Oh, hi, what a cute dog... look the hair on his back is raised, how cute! What's his name? Does he always growl like that", I finally got the lady to pull the dog away so I could resume my run

I also did GTG pull-ups and dips on saturday. Sunday was a day of just flat-out overeating. There's only so much you can do when those steaks are being passed around! Oh, and coconut flan... my weakness... guess I'll have to make up for it today!

Lucky for me I decided to rest on the GTG pull-ups yesterday. We ended up doing Cindy! (my favorite)

Cindy is a personal challenge for me as last month, because I had not done any pull-up work in a while, my performance had dropped from 10 rounds to 8!

Yesterday I managed to do a complete Rx'd Cindy, with no assistance on the pull-ups (which on previous WODs I would require towards the end). I ended up pulling a nice 11 rounds (I think I did 12 and someone didn't count one). Those GTG pull-ups really paid off!!!

Towards the end I was doing the pull-ups in sets of 2+2+1. Once that starts happening, you really start losing time, so there's still a lot of room for improvement there. I was also doing my push-ups in sets of 5+3+2. I flew right through the squats, though.

I'm hoping to continue my GTG pull-up work and start cranking up the dips and push-ups to get enough endurance on my triceps so I can knock out 10 straight all the way through my last set... that's next month's objective!!!

After that, it'll be a complete matter of anaerobic endurance. My heart-rate made it up to 175 BPM yesterday, so I can see how I'll be gasping for breath once those numbers get up
