i do the workouts because even if the APK wod didnt exist, i would be doing stuff like it. i have been working out since before i started parkour. the 2 activities share a lot of the same mentalities. always progressing, trying to improve, pushing your limits, etc.

I don't really see a need to change anything about the WOD at this point and I'm not sure there is anything you can do as admins/mods to improve participation. If people are gonna do them, then they will . . . if not, what can you do. IMO, people might not be doing the WOD for one of two reasons . . . 1 - they are already involved in another exercise routine or 2 - they are lazy and don't exercise anyhow.
I'm a reasonably fit guy and have been working out seriously for about 6-7 years. I currently lift (full-body circuit training) twice a week (sometimes 3) and typically would do cardio another 3-4 times a week. Cardio usually equated to jogging/running or inline skating. However, during the winter months my cardio would often fall off due to the cold weather and the fact that I hate running in even moderate cold and on a treadmill. So, the WOD's give me other options on those cardio days. And personally, I love the WOD's. Sometimes I might combine some of my own cardio training with a WOD or even an APK WOD with a Crossfit WOD. Combo days liek that can be real killers and it is often reflected in my results that I post.
1. Do you do the workout of the day. If so, do you post, why or why not?
I post when I do the workouts. But I don't always do the WOD depending on if I am lifting that day or decide to just run a 4-6 miles for cardio. Often times I end up doing the various WOD out of cycle with the schedule and post sometimes several days after Jesse posts one.

The fact that you workout if fantastic. What we are offering with the WOD is training for the motivated Traceur. These are workouts that will mimic parkour trainings and improve the specific muscles you use while doing parkour. You might run 4-6 miles, and that will build muscle, but not necessarily in the right place. I know track runners that can do a 4 minute mile, 10 times a day..... but cant bend their knees enough to do just one squat. The weight training is great, but I get a much better response when i do these bodyweight exercises because it helps my muscles become balanced with my body, and my body get balanced with my muscles. Its all about application, and the WOD are made just for application.
Thats why there is an emphasis on them, you WILL see a difference in your training with the wod, but it all depends if you want to take pk to that next level. (im not nudging you along, if you dont want to take parkour that serious, that totally fine. But if youre that traceur looking for that extra edge, then you can really do something about it with our help)

I have a different perspective on the WOD. I don't look at it as only a method in which I can improve my abilities as a practitioner of Pk or freerunning. I see the WOD as another piece of the puzzle that I couple with my traditional weight training, cardio training, and as of late Crossfit training. Exercise in all its forms is a lifestyle choice for me of healthier living.
For example, I don't look at my middle-distance running as a method to build muscle as it really isn't ment for that anyhow. I see that as a way to improve my cardio vascular endurance, improve my resistance to muscle and joint injury, and the psychological/mental benefits such as stress relief.
The WOD doesn't have to be viewed as only a method to improve as a traceur but also as a way to improve one's overall fitness level in a compact time frame and with a limited amount of equipment. The array of bodyweight based exercises that Jesse incorporates is an excellent way to improve one's strenght-to-weight ratio and functional strenght. I have realized, since I began PK, that I sorely lack in those areas and use the APK and Crossfit WOD to improve in those areas. Maybe I misinterpreted your comment on the WOD vs. application or I may just have a different perspective on both the application and benefits of it. Regardless of how you view the APK WOD, one can only benefit by participating.

I feel like you have a fantastic workout schedule. And you are somewhat right about trying to make the WOD for people with busy schedules. Its more of a, everything that might not directly apply to parkour-like activities is taken out. its just fine tuned and you dont absolutely NEED to do anything else if your only goal is to improve parkour. Dave, you obviously have many other goals and thats sooo awesome. I think this thread is more of a call out to people who dont have any kind of workout program. and dave.......... you also need to quit smoking hhaha

Oh, I figured M2 started the thread as a way to get a gauge of how people felt about the WOD, how many people were participating, and how the APK admin/mod team could improve the WOD. Just givin' my take is all cuz I think the WOD is one of the best aspects of this board/site/forum and dave.......... you also need to quit smoking hhaha Yeah, I know. I'll be giving it another shot here in the spring. It's kind of hippocritical of me to preach about fitness and healthy living when I smoke the cancer sticks

I do the WOD, but I usually train on my own, focusing on core strength, upper-body strength, and running endurance.
Training isn't just a 20 minutes a day for me. It's how I live my life.
