first i'm sorry if i'm making a mistake posting this here...

i've been working out for a while now..i needed something to fill in the gaps that music and music study couldn't...i wanted something fun and really athletic [and not just lifting and running -- no fun really], so i picked up on parkour about a week ago..

here's how i used to work out:

run 4 miles a day (rest every 4 days),
do a 3 day lift/1 day rest cycle (back/bis day, chest/tris day, abs day, rest day)

i did that for a while.

now with parkour, i've changed:

warm-up (stretch, monkey walking..dogs love it.)
every morning, run (8-10 mph) 2 miles.
after school, run the same thing.
then, for 2 hours, practice: handstands, kip-ups (just because i've wanted to since i was itty bitty), rolls, and walking balance beam.
then i do my regular lifts, but more focused on body-weight excercises.
[wednsday and saturday are mandatory rest days.]

i eat a LOT.  1 meal (about 400 cals) every 3 hours or so, which is about 5-6 a day.  i'm strict on the ABS DIET POWER diet thing, mostly focusing on grains and nuts, with fruit drinks with most meals and a can of kidney beans or corn or peas a day.  i LOVE peanut butter sandwhiches, i'll go through maybe 3 a day.

is there anything major you want to point out maybe?  something fatally wrong?  it would help much..i've noticed that i can almost do a pretty good, 10-second handstand already, and rolls are getting easy.  kip-ups are a literal pain in my ass, but i'm getting better, and i can't believe my progress on the balance beam.

i use creatine monohydrate suppplement, and take a multi-vitamin every morning.  i sleep around 8 hours a day, drink tons of water, all that jazz..

any thoughts at all?  how often do you practice/train?  i can't seem to find any articles relating to "parkour overtraining," which is just bizarre for me, coming from the bodybuilders' forums..

more training?  less training?  more food?  more time off?  any thoughts at all?

Sounds pretty good to me. You've got the real issue in overtraining covered which is under-recovery. If you're resting well and eating well, you have nothing to worry about. Just listen to your body and take your time building up to the higher-impact techniques and you should be fine.

As for the workout, good job mixing it up a bit. Check out www.crossfit.com for some excellent workouts that apply perfectly to the energy systems and athletic requirements of Parkour. They also have a great forum where you can find tons of useful information about functional fitness, diet and injuries.

I personally train for general fitness 6 days a week, usually one to two workouts a day. I alternate between crossfit style metabolic conditioning and max-effort strength and power movements in the gym. I train Parkour at least 4 days a week, with training sessions varying from 20-45 minutes on most days, depending on time. I eat according to Zone perameters, but I try as much as possible to keep my foods within the scope of the Paleo diet also. I have found that both of these changes in my diet (from a much higher carbohydrate and lower fat plan) have helped out my fitness and recovery significantly.

yeah, i just got into parkour myself, i love the freedom i have. i can go anywhere. i usually eat 5 meals a day. and just a tip take a supplement like whey protein. your arms will build and recover easily, and my secret weapon creatine. you have so much more atp in your arms and you can do alot more amazing parkour tricks.

Hey Everybody,
If you already knew this then please forgive me, but with creatine your going to want to take it sparingly, say only on the workouts that you really toast yourself. More than 4-5 grams a day will basically kill your liver. I know a guy who really hurt himself bad using too much.

dont stick to hard to the diet, yeah there good but you gota have other things in there, aslo feel free to reward your self everyonce and a while, otherwise when you do break and eat that cookie, youll end up eathing the entire box and loosing everything you worked for.
