My name is Swain.

I just moved to NYC for school, and I'm loving it. I have been PKing for a year or so (not all that regualrly though), and have a background in gymnastics (did it for 9 years). I really want to improve both my work ethic dealing with PK and my skills. Yet there are a few problems...

First, I have no one to PK with and no idea where to PK. I live on West 49th St. (Midtown West). If there is anyone nearby, let me know and maybe we could PK sometime.

Second, I was wondering if any of you practice in any gyms (gyms as in gymnastics-type gyms, not weights, etc.). If oyu do I'd love to hear about them and how you have gone about arranging times, gym space, etc. with them.

That's all I can think of for now, but I'll probably have more to say later.

Thanks for reading this, especially if you respond with something useful

Welcome man. Check out the local board for New York, and also stray over to nyparkour.com for all the info you need.

Good luck and have fun Cheesy

I believe theres a gym at chelsea piers that they go to. there might be others, but they just started workshops for the ny scene. they should be listed in the NY board on the main forum!

Glad to have you here!!!!  Grin

Welcome to APK, Swizzle Sticks (which is your new nickname) Smiley

As gear said, I suggest you check out nyparkour.com, there are actually two jams this weekend, if you feel like jumping straight into the swing of things.

One of them, on saturday, is pretty close to you, at riverside park:

And on Sunday, in Central Jersey:

There are also some workshops being taught in Brooklyn, which I hear are excelent:

In regard to the use of gyms, they are fun for training techniques that we are not yet comfortable with, but our real home is out on the street, that's where we "ply our trade" so to speak.

They are simply workshops, at a gym, where traceurs can learn new skills, and hone the ones that they have, through drilling and intensive training within a nearly injury-proof environment.

You wouldn't have had to ask if you cad clicked the link I put in my last post Wink

And the reason you don't have them in VAPK is that you guys are all naturally super-traceurs.

We're just struggling to catch up.

Oh, and I forgot to say, if anyone is interested in PKing sometime, my screenname is sun864 and my email address is swain.uber@gmail.com, so contact me and maybe we can work something out.  Especially with how the weather has been as of late.

I'm going to try to come to the next workshop, but it's on the same weekend that one of my friends is coming and visiting me, so unless she leaves before it, I doubt that I can make it.

And hopefully we can put together another jam or two soon so I can get a chance to meet everyone face-to-face.

Thanks for all your replies, they've helped a lot.

Swizz

(and just in case you have been reading both this and NYParkour forums, you might have noticed I repeat posts, but that's just so the people who don't overlap will get to read them hehe)
