For some reason, I can't seem to do any pull ups or chin ups and it is really frustrating.  Does anyone know how to get better?

Just keep trying. Try a grease-the-groove. Check out Steve Low's workout thread for details on how to do this. Basically you want to do as much of a pullup as you can do any time you pass under something "pullupable."

Also, negatives will really help.

There is no Pullup Fairy that will grant them to you. It really does take consistent, daily effort.

Keep workin at it! 6 months ago I couldnt do 10... now i can easily do 30 or more in sets of 10.

24 hour fitness has a machine that adds negative weight to foot pad things. It will help you do a pullup by reducing the weight you have to lift... that is if you have that at your disposal.

Negatives - Static hangs -- these things are HUGE. When I started I could do none. My dad offered me 2000 dollars if I could break his highschool record by the time I was done with highschool (He did 32 Straight, no momentum, up and down) In 2 years I got up to 29. I never did break his record, because training so much for them I got bad tedonitis in my shoulders and decided I didn't care anymore, But I started with inability to even move and in a week I could do 5 straight just by jumping into negatives and trying to slowly lower myself. Static hangs at the bottom and top of the pullup will help greatly too, just make sure you are flexing your shoulder/armpit muscles so you aren't just letting gravity yank on your joints. You can do it though! Keep at it!
