Does anyone else here get people who walk by say stuff like "psh, that looks easy!" or "I could do that!" until you tell them to go ahead and then they just walk away? I have a story some of you might appreciate where the kid actually did try [to] parkour.
So I was walking to dinner with two of my friends, one of which {does} parkour[s ]. As we were walking my friend [who parkours] vaulted a railing on a handicap ramp, then at the end up the ramp (where the ramp was a foot or two off the ground) he did a turn vault, landed on the edge of the ramp then went on his way. A friend of my other friend who was with us turned to me and said, "That wasn't that cool, I could do that," to which I just told him to give it a shot. He ran up, barely didn't wipe out on the first vault, but then jumped over the railing at the end of the ramp and basically fell 5-6 feet out of the air and landed almost completely on his side on the concrete. Amazingly he didn't break anything (although he was limping the rest of the night). I don't know about you all, but I loved finally seeing one of those smart asses actually try [to] {a} parkour {movement} after getting called out on saying how easy parkour is, then fall on his face.

Hey man, you're gonna catch major flak using parkour as a verb. But anyways, while a part of me is satisfied at your friends failure, most of me is sad that somebody got hurt just out of ignorance. Education is the best revenge.

Yeah, I don't understand the problem with using parkour as a verb, but everybody says, oh man, look out, that's bad... whatever.
That's great though. Nobody I know has ever actually tried. The excuses they come up with are great though. "Oh, all my strength is in my legs." (from a guy who obviously had no strangth) "ahh, I just got a bad grip on it." (said person couldn't even get part of the way over the rail) "It's too wet/slippery, I don't wanna chance it." (I just did it, it's obviously not THAT wet...)
I don't see the problem with just admiting that you can't do something. Why won't people just say, oh, yeah, you can do something I can't. I mean, if I'm sitting my some really smart overachiever kid in math, and he does some algebra problem in his head really fast while I've writtin down maybe half, I'm not going to say, oh, I coulda done that, I'm just too tired to think straight or something.....

Noted. I've only been doing parkour for a a few months so I'm still learning all the terms. ...but ya. If he had said, "That looks easy, I wonder if I could do it," and not have been an ass about it I probably would have explained it to him, but he's pretty annoying and a touch arrogant, so I didn't mind seeing him bite it lol (of course keeping in mind he didnt get seriously injured).

haha yeah i get that alot
we were at the gym doing mat training and we were doing our double and triple kong vaults and one of the girls trainers there starting flirting with me and was like oh yeah i could do that, its not that hard.
so i pulled out some extra mats and had her try a few vaults......long story short, she face planted into the mats like 5 times before she gave up and admitted to the fact that what we were doing was alot harder than it looks

Did you at least get her phone number? Heh. I'm still at the point in my training where I'm the one going, "Uh, I don't think I could do that..." and eyeing the rail nervously. So I've never had those experiences in parkour. Get em all the time in ballet though. It kind of annoys me, because in a sense it sort of devalues the more than two decades of blood, sweat, and tears I spent to get to where I am. But at this point I just smile and shrug it off. The naysayer and I both know he/she is full of BS, so there's no sense in lingering there. Might be a good opportunity to encourage your friend to get involved and start training, though!

Although I used to find it annoying when someone said "That's easy/ what the heck is that / I could so do that" I don't care anymore. I invite them to try it but give them a quick lesson beforehand. I never want anyone to fall and hurt themselves no matter how arrogant they are. I've had a few cases where the person was arrogant, attempted the move, failed, I taught him how to do it, then he became interested in parkour and does it to this very day (3 cases so far!)

I take it as a compliment when I do something difficult and someone says "thats easy. I could do that". It just means I did it well enough that it looked easy. Just like your ballet Muse. You've got it down so well that it looks effortless.

Too true, Nik. I never thought of it in terms of that perspective before. Thanks for that. I only wish it *felt* as effortless as some people seem to think it looks! btw, I *love* the Faulkner quote in your sig. Outstanding.

Wait...Since we can't use parkour as a verb, what do we use? I always say "I am running..." or something to that effect, but everyone ends up thinking I am just running.
I haven't had that happen to me yet...usually they are just like "What the hell spider man?".
But I did have this one kid Garret walk himself into a corner. I was bored after school so I climbed a tree, and he said something to the effect of thats easy. So, I said 'Yeah, but it's fun. Try it" He did and failed, and made the excuse that his shoes where slippery, so I told him to do it barefoot, to which he said his feet would get cut up, so I did it barefoot. Then he ended up failing again, so he said he was to tired from trying...so I did it five more times to prove that it doesn't take much endurance or strength. Then he said it was because I have more upper body strength them him. To which I pointed out that at the time I could only do one full pullup, and then, to further prove my point, arm wrestled him, he won.
At some time he stopped talking to me, and started bragging about being a black belt in some random martial art.
I felt good.
Huh, sorry...Did I ramble a bit?
Matt

ya i doubt that. when your in a situation and your friends are doing something and they say u cant, your going to want to prove them wrong. its only natural. i know i get that way all the time. if i know i cant do something but someone did im going to do it any way. its in human nature to try to prove people wrong. people dont like to be proven wrong. we also dont like to seem lesser than someone one. so if someone is showing you off, your going to try to prove them wrong. theres nothing bad about that
