Crazy...

What do people think about Parkour comps?

One of the things that attracts me to things like climbing and Parkour is that it is such an internal discipline...you are vying against your own weaknesses (physical and mental). I have never been a competitive sport minded person...I know in climbing there are comps (mainly for pure difficulty) but a lot of is in the internal/intangible realm...hard to lay points down for. Smiley

What would a Parkour comp look like? A big tag game? get from point A to B the fastest? (ala the ninja challenge?) Hardest single move or best trick???

Curious...

there is an informal parkour like competition on the G4 gaming network on comcast channel 136 called ninja warrior. it pits 100 contestants againts four obstacle courses that they have to beat in a time limit or just finish without dropping into a pool of water below. as far as i know only two people have ever succeeded in making it to the end. also i have never seen someone who is dedicated to parkour run it. id like to be the first.

I think they would have to do like track or gymnastics and have different events. There are so many different aspects of Parkour that it would be impossible to judge them all at once.

Gotta say, if I went to a comp. I would do it just to meet and hang with other traceurs and check out the skills. (sometimes watching is waay under-rated) Grin

I think I resonate more on the non-comp aspect...though if it was something like the "ninja warrior"
course (Japanese game show..search on Google video or you tube)
I could see that being something to shoot for...because its not like a race or a comp tag..
you either do it or you don't and if you don't you try again after training harder.
