Well your doing a double leg setup...
a setup for a sideflip is to do an aerial, and keep rotating , instead of bringing your hips around for an aerial
For exampls, THIS is a sideflip, because he goes around his head, instead of snapping his hips back into an aerial...
Yours however, throws with the shoulder, resulting in a double leg not tucked....

Yes, what Jump said. Take off with your legs apart like an arial, or kartwheel (except drive your back leg up, and really jump off the other) Your chest should face the same direction throughout. The only difference from an ariel is that you tuck out of it.

Are you trying a side flip as in the tucked flip going sideways, or more of a cyril/joe eigo sideflip thats more like an aerial?
If you want an aerial like side flip take these into account: Your hands are up when you go into it - they should be thrown out forward instead like an aerial. Keep the chest up but your momentum should shift over sideways - as if your pushing your shoulder to the ground causing the torso to rotate about it. You land in a double leg position after doing your momentum hop - no hop is need you need to approach it like its an aerial/cartwheel. Your back leg needs to come up first and tuck hard against your body, followed by the second one after your pretty much in a split position.
If you want the tucked side flip: Good job on the position, it is like a double leg. The only difference is the momentum and how your legs tuck up. In a double leg your torso will twist in a way to be parallel to the ground but in a side flip your torso remains perpendicular. Its all about throwing your shoulder down causing the torso to follow (mm torque...) Then just tuck with the intention of remaining sideways.
Keep recording yourself and watch it after every attempt. I suggest trying it off a 1-2 ft platform to help getting technique down (more height = more time to tweak in air.)

Thanks everyone! I can do an aerial, so today I will try to just do an aerial and tuck my legs with it!

Dogen did a sideflip tutorial for the way that you are trying them with the two footed take off.

Thats not the kind of sideflip that he was trying though. (side note that guy gets a lot of torque and no height.

Well, I think I will try the one-footed takeoff. Because I already know what to do for that, and although blocking is a good technique (as with the dogen setup for the sideflip), it can really take away from the flow of a run. I'm tempted to say that blocking a sideflip is more of a tricking move, and a one footed takeoff is more of a freerunning move.
