I don't want to re- type my story here but to make it short, i had a longboard crash (about 20mph) and a parkour roll saved my ass (and its not the first time) Link to pictures and story http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/50670919/

Wow, the scrape even goes from your shoulder diagonally toward the opposite hip. Proof of a parkour roll! I am glad you are ok. The helmet may have saved your life but the parkour roll probably saved you from more injuries as well.

Wow, I'm actually really impressed and glad(i'll explain in a second) this happened.
I remember reading somewhere (on a tricking forum) that it is said that it takes about 6000 times of an action for it to become muscle memory. Now maybe you haven't rolled 6000 times, but you had enough experience that your body naturally started to roll in the pk way(Which diverts force better obviously) instead of a natural reaction, to roll on the side of your body.
I This is what practice and training lead to...so keep training! good work!

I've heard only 1500 and if you make any mistakes those get ingrained into your memory aswell.

the scrape even continues ove4r to my right buttock, but i did not want to include that on the picture of obvious reasons... As for the rolling that really helped disperse the force of the fall. I Am quite sure that i have not done parkour rolls 6,000 times maybe more like a couple hundred, but for me it was instinctive, and i did not even have to think how i was going to do it.

it's interesting...i usually can't roll on concrete yet without some pain in my lower back, but the other day i bailed on a vault and did a perfect left shoulder-roll to save myself. i normally can't even roll left shoulder-ed well at all. weird circumstances do weird things...
glad you're alright!

Point is you should drill all rolls equaly to be prepaird for everything. I don't know how mainy times I have had to bust out a side roll be cause a vault went wrong ... OR right in a couple of cases.

what sort of board do you have? I've got a Landyachtz Evo.
Yet another way parkour can be put into practical uses.
