This is more of an illness issue and has nothing to do with parkour but the soft tissue in my throat is infected. Its swollen to the point right now where I can't talk and my breathing is strained but the worst part is that i have only been able to sleep 4 hours since tuesday morning and my perscription wont kick in until tommorow night. I was just wondering if anyone had anything they did for sore throats. Some of the things that i am currently doing are Cloroseptic spray (ugggh), gargling with salty water (and eating salty foods), taking tylenol (for pain and as a fever reducer), drinking lots of water and tea and going through packs of throat lozengers. Any Ideas? Also I dont want to take any sleeping pills as my doctor advised against them because of other medications.

ouch I just got down with a virus that included a sore throat,
now a couple of important things,
A) If you cough up phlegm or any other fluids SPIT THEM OUT there is a reason you cough them up and ALOT of people mistakingly swallow them down, just because its not a cold doesnt mean your coughing up somthing differant....
B) sit upright, that way the fluids can drain, its all about getting out the fluids...
C) RAMAN SOUP...lots of it, u get pasta which has that good kind of sugar ( I forgot the name) and soup...duh...
D) Try to prevent coughing as much as possible, coughing makes your throat raw and basically sore, your main goal right now is to prevent coughing.
Lastly, take showers, the steam calms and sooths your body/throat. Dont take a bath unless you really want to die.

All good advice except for C)
BLEAGH
Ramen noodles are deep fried in oil, not to mention the high sodium content, which will just suck any moisture out of your already inflamed throat passages. The 'good sugar,' glucose, dosen't really have any role here. You should probably eat fruits, which will have vitamins that will aid in the de-swelling of your throat....

cup of raman is fried in oil but manchurien isnt (except for the oriental and pork) also the good suger (goddanm I wish I remembered the name of it) helps you stay healthy overall, especially if your growing however campbelles chicken with dumplings can always be a substitute...

I already said it:
Your "good" sugar is known as GLUCOSE- a CARBOHYDRATE (C6H12O6).
It is not important for growing at all, but it IS the number one source of energy.
What you need is WATER and VITAMINS

You need energy to grow, ever sleep in class? It happends in teens alot they dont get enough energy and use most of it up growing which is unhealthy
also its important to get a long burning energy when your sick since your not moving and not burning any calories, so eating candy will make u really fat and unhealthy, never eat candy if your sick

Wrong again:
Candy is bad for you at any time because candy is composed of another carbohydrate:
High Fructose Corn Syrup;
Fructose (like gluCOSE ...see the suffix similarities?) is a carbohydrate, but it is harder to burn, because of its geometric and biological shape.
If you want a long burning energy, you want protien; which is primarily for energy storage, but in need, will break down into energy
Glucose is the best sugar for you because its a simple sugar. Bread is a simple sugar.

so...what was wrong about what I said?
and also I know candy is bad for u 24/7 but that doesnt mean I'm going to stop having it like soda, I just choose when not to have it when its worse for me like when I'm sick and it can break me down

uh, I was referring to the sense of a 'long burning energy.'
It's not that fructose dosen't burn "long" its that it burns less efficiently

JumpOffMyRoof -- you're actually wrong too.
Fructose isn't any less efficient or take "longer" to burn than glucose at all. If you look at the biochemical pathways catalyzed by certain enzymes in the body, you will see that all chemical interactions are pretty much intertwined. In fact, fructose-6-phosphate and fruc-1,6-biphosphate are actually further down the chain of reactions in glycolysis so if anything it is easier to burn than glucose.
Glucose are just emphasized as important because the liver synthesizes it through gluconeogenesis which then supplies cells like the neurons in your brain with energy. And glycogen storage is important for energy storage especially for muscles. It's not like it burns or is metabolized faster or anything.
The BIGGEST distinctions that can be made are mainly between simple and complex carbohydrates which would be your sugars vs your starches for short and long term energy. The main difference between SUGARS would be if they are one vs muliple sugar molecules such as glucose vs sucrose. Sugars generally metabolize at nearly the same speed in eukaryotes though... with bacteria like E. Coli it's generally a different story as each one has to start producing different enzymes according to their environment to metabolize different carbohydrates.
I knew my biochem degree was good for something, rofl.
