great job cloud and frosti. Theres a few more things i want to add. That tower was a hangout for kids at U of I... and he left his glasses up there. in his picture on the news website he's wearing glasses. why would he leave them up there or even take them off at 140 feet above the ground.  Thats a tremendous height.  anyways, a sad story and I wish him and his family well.

My guess is he left them up there intentionally as proof of his daring stunt. Unfortunately, I guess it didn't work out like he planned. If I understood Cloud correctly, he really didn't get in contact with the parkour comminity in his area. Perhaps after doing some looking around and posting a few times in the facebook group, he decided it wasn't for him and went looking for bigger thrills. If he'd had some guidance from real tracuers, maybe he wouldn't have made such a foolhardy decision.

Sorry if that sounds calous, but I really don't have sympathy for people who so obviously disregard thier limits.

Also, excellent work, Cloud and Frosti. Way to represent the art. That blurb describing parkour that they ran seems to be the most accurate thing I have read in the mainstream media about parkour.

There is a facebook group for parkour at the University of Colorado. I don't know half the people in it but I do know almost if not everyone who does parkour at CU. Just because he was in the facebook group doesn't mean he did parkour.

If the death wasn't clearly related to parkour why the media intrest in the sport becasue of it?  Wouldn't that alone give parkour a bad light.

It's the ability to make connections so they can create a more controversial story, and thus evoke more emotional reactions; if a suicide cult called themselves the Red Cross after an image of a cross dripping with blood, you can bet the media would put "Red Cross Suicide Cult" on the front page as their headline, so it would attract more readers to buy it from the stand. Sure, the better-known Red Cross organization might raise a fuss about it, but that wouldn't undo the original sales.

Damn, this kid gave us a bad name by dying like this.

And the media's making it worse. He died not because he was practicing Parkour, but because he flat out misinformed and far, far too reckless.

whoa whoa there man, we still don't know that he was even practising when it happened, for all we know he could have tripped, his glasses fell off, and then he slid off the tower, or a multitude of other scenarios.

i think it was Highly unlikely that he did this while trying to practice.

and as for the leaving his stuff up there...i know its touchy, and i say this with all sincerity, does anyone know if he was troubled, maybe at home or with friends?

They may not have been able to rule out the involvement of Parkour, but the connection to an online website is purely irrelevant. I certainly dislike the bias of that reporter.
