Well, the reason that I was prompting my post here and the post of others, is the fact of convinience.  Some people would spend more time here than looking around, and I would rather have people be lazy and read it here and be safe, rather than not have them have any knowledge at all.

It's easy to get applauded when copying and pasting someone elses articles. It's called Plagiarism. Grin
(not you JumpOffMyRoof?, you gave credit)
And guys, if you have any questions about a subject, dont wait to ask someone so they can just look it up on the internet and repost it here. There are these wonderful things called search engines. Or if it's health related go to webmd.com or the various other online resourses out there.

Is it so difficult that maybe I actually know what i'm talking about?  It's annoying to be accused of plagiarism when you actually DID type it yourself.

The difference is that used my own knowledge, which I got from books, not the internet.  As said before, i'm training as a Combat Medic, and these are things I have to know.  Someone asked, and I answered.  Obviously we'll not need First Aid for Phosphorus burns or cyanogen chloride induced illness.  I gave information that would be more relevant to us.  Now, if writing articles based on the knowledge gained from another is Plagiarism, then 97% of the writers on this planet should be arrested.  So try taking your search engines and searching out my articles on them.  Find anything?  Course not, because I WROTE IT.  Thanks.

Oh, but I do agree I should have cited my information.  For that much, I apoligize.  Most of my training is from two combat medic books called "FIRST AID FOR SOLDIERS (FM 21-11)"  and "U.S. ARMY SPECIAL FORCES MEDICAL HANDBOOK."  I only own the first, which was probably a mistake, considering it's now up for use on the internet at http://www.brooksidepress.org/Products/OperationalMedicine/DATA/operationalmed/Manuals/1stAidforSoldiers/fm2111.html  Could have saved myself 9.95 if I had waited a year.  Que triste...

I spent quite a while to find a thread similar to this, covering first-aid.. and I noticed that it seems that it's a topic which isin't very common.

I think first-aid is very important, especially in parkour.(I know a bit of first-aid myself, and my friends dont.. and I always get the injuries so they end up staring at me while I squeel in pain.)

So I thought I'd bump it back from the dead, to set awareness of this topic, because I (personally) feel its a topic which is very important.

I excuse myself if this may cause annoyance to some members or go against any forum rule...

I think it's great if more people take first responder courses (I'm hoping to, I've only taken a basic CPR course) - especially traceurs who are likely to be able to get somewhere in a hurry if that's called for.

this may vary by state, but at least in illinois and michigan it's actually against the law for you to neglect to try to  help someone once you are certified, unless the person refuses help.  then, you wait until they lose consciousness and then help them.  of course, you would have called 911 first thing...  and then you must continue to administer CPR/first aid until the professionals show up on the scene. you can't just quit because you're tired or what have you.  there's all this risk of getting charged with negligence.

in other words, it's awesome to be trained and is a potentially life-saving skill to possess, but it comes with heavy responsibility.

Damn.  That's a particularly harsh kind of good samaritan law.  You sure it's explicitly in the penal code?  Or is it just an interpretation of negligence?

It's actually like that in most states, depending on what your cert is.  Anyone who's an EMT-B for pretty much any state (and every province in Canada) MUST help.  If you see a car accident, you HAVE to pull over.  It's a little more lenient for first aid certs, though.

That's right....and it is not as harsh as it may turn out to be. In many states any LVN or RN is required by law to pull over and tend to an accident ( or else loose their license and face the penalties). In the state of Texas I remember many times when I was younger that my mother had to tend to accidents involving injured victims.

Oh, and thank you for you input here Excieo. You've been a great help, at least to me.

If the law about "stopping for an accident" doesn't apply in Texas...then my mother doesn't know! Cheesy

Also: I don't know why you brought up that law but I like it. I hope to return to Texas after I am done with this schooling.
