Lately, I've seen awesome advances in all other moves... except underbars! I'm not sure if I'm the only one who's catching this, but lately there aren't any underbars in any videos. Is it just that underbars are hard to come by or something?

I'm curious. How has the forum gotten to this? It's personal choice. You're free to use whatever methods you choose to overcome your obstacles. Other people not using this or using this. Does it matter? Really? Work on yourself, and quit worrying about others. Who cares what others do, it's not you, so why bother. If you like underbars, do em, work on em. This is a pointless thread, and it disgust me that this forum has come to this. You have even put this thread into the wrong forum. If you're gonna go post something like this shove it in "Socialize"
Calm down, brother. The purpose of forum is discussion. If you don't like the topic of discussion, then don't get involved with it, but as you see below you, it may interest others, so unless you own this forum, or you have been appointed a position of authority by someone who does own this forum, then you don't have the right to close down a conversation. _________________________________ Yang, I don't think they are dying by any means. Underbars are definitely more scarce, and I see them much more in soft, training-style flow than in real explosive situations. Since the most common videos are all showreels with big fancy movements, which continue to advance, you'll see less and less of those simple movements we were once so familiar with. That's simply the evolution of motion. Plenty of people including myself still do underbars, and still apply the concepts behind the underbar to their movement. No need to fret. Like I said, the more advanced we get, the less and less you will obviously see the basic movements we used to see in Vault 101 videos.

I don't believe I closed the thread Adam, as you and Cody were able to post in it, and I'd appreciate it if you'd shut the f#ck up.
Please calm down, if the community of the nicest, friendly people I know start fighting, what hope is there for the rest of the world?

yeah, i agree, i think youre kinda stepping out of bounds here, i mean i realize the you may not like the discussion of the topic, but he has a valid point, and its not like this community to shut people and/or their ideas out like that..... i almost didnt want to post in this thread simply because of how harsh you were... you seem to have forgotten the rules of this forum, so heres a link if youd be so kind as to read them http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php/topic,81.0.html_____ ive never really found the underbar to have much of a use for me, it seems i can usually get over a rail easier than under, unless its into a drop from a place i dont necessarily want to fall from, then underbarring can lessen the height

o.O
I'd have to agree with shawn, underbars are definitely most effective going into a drop. but they also tend to make movements look more flowy:)

Also, I love underbars. Unfortunately we don't have a ton of places to train them in Rochester, but I work them in my gymnastics gym. I use parallel bars so I can adjust the height. Last month I got same-level underbars, and last week I was working the going over a second bar that was about 4 inches higher than the first one, with the first being at about eye level.
Hard and scary, but definitely pretty awesome!

Underbars are some of my favorite movements, they're actually more useful then you'd expect. As for why they're not showcased very much in videos, I'm not sure.

Not sure why it said Bless. I'm in a happier mood right now. I'd like to apologize Adam and Yang, I wasn't thinking correctly. I've removed the previous post, and quit frankly I feel stupid.

I think underbars in between railing 1 are harder than vaulting it 2 look cool and 3 keep the flow better.

Apology accepted, Matt. Way to man up.
@ Zach: How amazing are parallel bars at the gym? Honestly.

I just think underbars aren't seen as much because railings seems to be more scarce than walls. So naturally, something other than an underbar will be used.
I myself only use underbars when I'm training flow on a set of parallel railings that I can practice flow on.
So really, you gotta have some bars for underbars.

the scarcety of locations is my reason for not doing them, but at the same time im still waiting for that perfect moment where the rail is on top of a 3 or 4 foot wall and has just enough room for me to sprint and underbar right onto the wall, thats really the only time i see underbars as efficient in time and energy, rather than climbing and vaulting, in a life or death situation thats what i would hope i would do. like heres my terrible picture attempt
_ |(top of raily) O _| (rail no horizontal bars inbetween) /|\ | (wall thingy, and te rail is only effed up looking to show the diff between it and the wall) /\ | (more wall woooo!) | | ___________|_______(bottom of wall wee!)

I think they're just awkward. I hardly ever find a time when I could move faster and more explosively under/through a rail as opposed to over. But thats just me *shrugs*
