"Progressing through fear safely" is practically an oxymoron. Your not going to be able to get through it unless there are risks. You have to be in the right mindset, yes, you have to clear your mind of everything and block out distractions. Then you think of what you want to do only if you think about the negative things then start over. After you replay what you want to do enough times go do it.

Unique I agree that you should not let fear hinder your progression. The balance I have kept with my fear and progression has worked wonderfully for me. It hasn't held me back at all, it just keeps me more aware of what i am doing and what is around me. In the last month I have pushed myself the hardest I've ever pushed myself, and it has produced some great results!! But, I guess it is all just a matter of opinion and different techniues!! Like I said, keep up the good ideas, all this brain storming and thinking is a very good way to sharpen the mind! Train hard and Train safe!!  Strydzz

training too hard and pushing yourself too far can lead to injury. that having been said unless one explores the limits of one's capabilities one will never get better. a controlled fear makes me feel more alive, more aware. I use my fear to my advantage. when I was learning to surf so many years ago that is what my surf mentor taught me for surfing big waves. fear helps me stay focussed on my techniques. dislocated shoulders or broken bones prevent me from training with the intensity that I would like.

One assumes the risk of injury when practicing parkour. No matter how hard you push yourself, or how easy you take it, the risk of injury will always be there. You have to know your limits, and that is how you will know you aren't pushing yourself too far or too hard. It is all about exploring you limits and knowing your physical boundries. No matter what, you will end up on your ass one way or another, but that is part of progression.

I agree but the way you handel those risks should be done safey. Say you wanted to do a front flip (not pk) I bet you wouldn't just one right there on the spot. You would build up to it. If you do it right away without any training what so ever you could really hurt yourself!
