Ok I already posted this in the socialize section but some people thought it would do well here due to it involving health. Today is my first day starting a new sleep schedule. It is known as the Uberman sleep program but the technical term is Polyphasic Sleep. Polyphasic sleep involves taking multiple short sleep periods throughout the day instead of getting all your sleep in one long chunk. So i will be taking 20 minute naps periodically throughout the day to see if i can reduce my sleep time to two hours. I have already begun and took my first nap at 9:40pm to 10pm. I made a blog to go with this and will try to update it as much as possible. http://polyphase.wordpress.com/. I am hoping to see the overall affect this has on my health and mind. We'll have to find out.

It won't work well. I know various people who have tried it; all have failed.

Go for it if you so desire, but in a couple days you'll feel like crap. Smiley

There's pretty much a reason why everyone on the planet has a natural circadian rhythm of a big chunk of sleep.. which is namely because it works. The best. By far.

I appreciate the warning but I am too stubborn to turn back on something i've set my mind too. It probably won't turn out well but we will see.

I attempted to adapt to polyphasic sleep last year.........

It was the worst 2 weeks of my life, and i ended up failing because I decided to quit out of concern for my health.  Sad

If anyone tries to do this, I have a word of advice for you: Make SURE you don't oversleep often. That will lead to absolute failure.

You will sleep through your alarm clock if you aren't careful.

This group was a big help in gathering information though: http://groups.google.com/group/Polyphasic?hl=en&lnk=

When your body adapts a little, you will definitely know. I had a night's worth of dreams in 20 min once. (It felt amazing) Grin.

It is interesting, but I don't really recommend it.

Good luck though  Smiley

I gotta agree with Steve and Henry, I've heard nothing but bad things about it, but everyone is different, maybe it'll work for you.

I have high hopes that it will. So far ts been three days since i had a real nights sleep, and i feel horrible, but thats to be expected for the first week or so.

Well so far it is day five and I'm feeling ok right now (just got up from nap) and feel good overall. I read the article about Steve when i first heard of this and based my goal on it. I am going to stick with this for a total of at least 30 days, thats around when school starts, I'll have to evaluate it when i get there. Thanks for the link to the group Henry, haven't seen this one before.

Good luck!  I couldn't stand to be awake for that long.  Would get soooo bored.

I've had friends who've tried.  Like Steve, they all failed.

Steve didn't really fail Animus, from what i read he just stopped because of social reasons (ie he wanted to spend more time with his family or whatever). I am getting kinda bored during the night time. I try to train as much as possible but you get a bit tired after a while. Does anybody have any good books they would recommend? Doesn't matter what type i'm really into anything.

Kurt Vonnegut.  Try Cat's Cradle or Timequake for starters.

Perfect your culinary skills at night.  Build yourself a bookshelf.  Learn a different language.  Plant a garden.  Do some Lifehacker projects.  Learn native plants and how to use them.  Make some extra money.
