i actually think the game is pretty awsome looking and im planning on buying it on november 11th

parkour isnt our lives no one does parkour 24/7
i do parkour and i also enjoy playing my 360 its like a 2 in one deal for me it lets me see other possibilities and apply it to everyday life

so i think this is a pretty pointless post cuz people play football games all the time and you dont see someone complaining "god i hate madden why would you sit on your lazy ass when you could be out playing real football"

if you dont like it thats fine
if you do like it then thats fine too
but you really dont have much of a right to complain especially about a game thats not out yet
im sure you played assassins creed and never said "man why am i doing this i could be outside doing this myself."

but can you jump from a rooftop whip out your hidden blade and assassinate some guy who deserves it? i think not

this is the same thing sure we can go out and do parkour but we cant deliver things while fighting off people chasing us every day thats why its ok to play a game every once in awile because it gives us a chance to escape reality for awile

ok im done with my rant

With all honesty, I do think I over-reacted, but to hype their game like that, it just irked me, and still does. I am a gamer, and I hope the game is good, but I just have this gut feeling...

As an indie game dev, I know that parkour and freerunning games suck. Just search parkour video game, or freerunning video game in google. I think one of the major reasons why they suck is cause, when the devs make them, they're just trying to make money, and they don't really care about the artistic value of the game or they don't have respect for the discipline.
And mirror's edge just looks like one of the other reasons why video games suck right now, they got a huge budget, and they just use money to make some big, flashy game with shiny graphics. The whole thing is fueled by money, and not by love for the art, or parkour.
I'm not saying I'm really pissed off about this, I'm just kind of annoyed. It's gonna be that kind of game where everyone goes, "look how cool it is!". It's gonna be all hyped up, and in the end the gameplay is gonna suck.
Oh yeah, and why shouldn't you run from the police? Chances are your gonna be faster, more agile, and have a pretty high chance of getting away. If I tagged a place and the cops show up, I'm not gonna wait for them to slap the cuffs on me, I'm gonna be out! Even if they shoot, and you get hit, you got a lawsuit.
But parkour should NEVER be used to fight people; the whole point is to run.

And I don't really think you can use Parkour to fight people; in game or in real life.

yeah, chances are, I'm not gonna pull some crazy parkour shit out if I run from them. The police are REALLY outta shape. I mean, all I would have to do is jump a fence or something, not that hard. Oh, and you shouldn't be worried about what other people think. Let them think what they wanna think, but just keep doin your thing anways.
And yeah, I realize you couldn't really use parkour for fighting, but that game makes it sound like you could, which is pretty lame.

This thread is hilarious!

For the record, I think this game looks brilliant, not only for its entertainment value, but for its message.  It is obviously a fantastic game (as in, unrealistic), and given its setting and the sheer impossibility of its movement, we're not going to have a big problem.  Parkour is the inspiration, but it was never meant to be a simulator nor a Parkour game.

But look again at the story.  This is about an oppressive society who creates a dystopian world under the guise of beauty.  The architecture is a cultural mapping of confinement; a subtext for an entity that wishes to regulate, shelter, dehumanize.  In the midst of that, you have the coercive runners..  Yes, they're counter-culturalists.  Yes, they're breaking the law.  But in the name of justice.  In the name of freeing humanity from oppression, from an architecture that wishes to dominate the human spirit.  And I think that captures the spirit of Parkour quite rightly!

i not a very big gamer but i play one every now and then and i know im at least going to rent it to see what its like. and think about it if they made a game where we could do everything in it not many people would by it. u got to exaggerate anything to make a game that people would play. who would play a shooter where u can get shoot once and then its game over and then you have to start the whole game over.

I'm rather impresse dwith the physics.  Seems like they have down what it actually feels like to move like that.  Just one thing seemed really weird and that was the cat-to-cat toward the end.  The camera movement wasn't particularly accurate.

Yeah the graphics + movement = beautiful. I love like the tictacs how she kinda scrambles up the wall and uses her hands to push off too, it's cool.

After all it's not a martial art lol unless you do a vault over a bar and throw your hands back so hard the bar flings and hits the guy behind you then yeah.  Cool

To reface i just read the rest of the thread, and just want to get my 2 cents in to the initial rigamaroll. This game is going to be awesome though, the way the color of the levels change depending on your speed and direction to show you the best path sounds just way to cool for words. i hope it works and isn't just another lame game gimmick.

Oh my God you know what else i heard Metal of Honor is Nothing like WWII you can't even feel the blood spray of your best heads head getting blown the Fuk off WTF

Seriously it isn't a Parkour simulator, they never said that, they said that it was the first first-person game where you could use 'freerunning elements'. Just so you know they also said that prince of persia and assasins creed were "games with freerunning/parkour elements". Plus the game looks fricken sweet. As a gamer i am very excited for its release.

As for interchangability of words, yeah we can barely keep the definitions straight here on our little forum, you think the rest of the world has any idea. Personally i think a lot of use are getting to bogged down in Free running, parkour,, sport not a sport bull. I mean Urban Freeflow turned it into a Bussiness and none of us seem to have a problem with that. Personally i would like to call it going O.U.T ( Over Under and Through ).
