today i went to my local park and realized that i need to stop doing kong vaults over picnic tables and move on because ive got them down pretty well. i figured i should try to kong over a pathway, which has two rails on either side of it. i thought i can just treat it like a table but instead of the table top theres just a gap and then i just need to plant my hands precisely on the rail. i ran up to it and just froze. and repeated that process for an hour and a half. now im just mad at myself for not even trying it. the distance is about 4 feet and the rails are about 3 feet high, something that i believe i can physically do, but planting my hands on a skinny little rail scares the heck out of me. i went back to the table and practiced planting my hands in precise locations and i did just fine almost every time, but that damn rail still scares me. any suggestions on how to get me out of my sissy slump?

Bro it happens to everyone. I still hate kongs on rails. What you gotta do is work on it progressively. Instead of jumping right into the gap, find a simple single rail, and work on slowly konging it from farther and farther away. Start with a monkey, take a step back, jump at it a bit, etc etc. Just work progressively so your mind gets used to it.

What about you move on onto a wall first that way the transition is not so drastic. Try that for a little while then progress as Adam suggested.

Good drill I use for gaining confidence In my hand placement for my vaults is to pick a plank every time I go to vault a picnic table. Switch it up and play around with that but working things like that will definitely help.

Rails are a bit scary at first I guess but soon you will love them. They allow you much more control as you are actually able to grip the bar as you pas over it. This is why now lots of vaults for me seem easier and more comfortable on rails for me. However, It is definitely a bad idea to skip from konging tables to konging rails with a gap. First of all, there are two reasons you are having problems in my mind and you should practice them individually. First, become very comfortable konging rails and bars. This is very important. You should not feel scared or uncomfortable. Then, as someone stated above, work you way up and confront your second weakness, the dive over the gap. Set imaginary boundaries for yourself. Dive from farther and farther away until you are very confidant. You can even use chalk or have a friend show you where you jumped from. Then, move on to a rail with a bush in front of it. Bushes are soft and curved and cool to dive over. Start at the skinniest part of the bush and move to the thickest part. Then, when you know you are ready, go for the actual dive. You may still be a bit scared, but if you KNOW you have the skill, you must not think and just go for it! Do a bunch of easy vaults first to pump yourself up and then, without stopping your flow or thinking, run to the double rails and just do it. It may be a little uggly at first but IMMEDIATELY do it again and again without stopping. Do it at least three times while you are hyped up and you will find that the fear is almost non-existant. Also, it is ok if the first one is sort of a diving two handed vault and your feet come to the side to clear the object. but then work towards straightening it. Try to find a place with grass on the other side!
Hope that helps.

one thing that might help with the progress it helped me alot when learning the kong find a wall that is kind of wide, like maybe a 1-1.5 feet wall that is hopefully higher then a picnic table and just start konging it, once you feel comfortable as previous people said increase distance for the dive into it and distance out of it. eventually you will feel very comfortable then just do the same thing with the rail and when you go back to that rail you spoke of first try to catch the other rail in a cat hang then move on to better stuff
