ok... well bout a week ago I pretty much decided that I want to learn a frontflip from heights....  I made a video of a few flips and I need some commentary of what I am doing wrong. What I can do to fix this problem and hopefully am able to start doing it from greater heights with no fear. In the video that is going to be listed below I will be standing on a 3 foot Steady chair and front flipping into a 1 inch this foam mat with a sleeping bag spread across... tell me what you think.... Enjoy!

I don't think you're doing much wrong bro. Jumping up a little more would be a good thing, but considering the low height you're jumping from, and the fact that you're just starting the frontflips, I think that's pretty good. You land on your feet most of the time. The more you do it, the tighter your body is gonna start to tuck, because you become more comfortable and flexible while rotating int he air. Just keep it up. You're doin fine.

Yea, didn't look too bad. One thing to get more height, other than just trying to push off harder, is to throw your arms up more. The motion is similar to having your arms down but forearms pointing up and extending them out above your head. You might want to try this technique on a trampoline or something first though... I remember the first time I did it, I threw them up right but didn't keep the technique for the rest of my body and under-rotated a lot.

Another thing that has helped me get more height on mine is to imagine a wall in front of me that I need to dive over. This helps me to get my chest/torso up really high and then tucking instead of just throwing down into a front.

EDIT: And another thing, yea, don't spend too long and get frustrated. Just work on it and if you don't think you are improving anymore, just stop. Try again the next day. I know that this break from practicing the movement has actually helped me a lot in getting techniques down. You can go and think about your technique and watch other people do them too.

I agree with what was said above, you're looking great!  A little trick I use to get a bit more height is to stand back from the ledge you're jumping off of a bit, and take a little hop forward and PUNCH the ground.  The further and harder you jump forward into the punch, the higher you'll go...obviously, don't try this on that chair, you need something solid under you.  Keep working it!

Jump with your shoulders. Also, jump up and forward, not just forward.

No he's right. You need to jump up. Your running momentum will take care of not landing in the same place, I promise. But if you jump up, you will have more rotating time, which will allow you to have time to untuck, so you can land upright, not in a crouched position. Landing crouched like that is a really good way to roll an ankle.

Jump more up. Jump more up until you're landing upright. If you're jumping as up as possible and not landing upright, then you need to condition and gain more explosive power. It's that simple. Your tuck and everything is great, you just need more time to do it.

You are also holding the tuck for too long. Which makes you land in a very tight position. Experiment with untucking a bit earlier, to me it looks like you could land almost upright if you untuck earlier.
