learn a backflip first then go to a gym and practice pushing off the wall with your take off foot into a backflip.
can you backflip?

IMO a front flip is harder than a backflip but the mental block to get a front flip is easier to beat than a backflip.
but it may be different for other people.

I can't actually do a standing backflip either, but I heard from a friend that wall backflips are much easier and the mental block isn't as bad. True or False?

Get your back tuck first. Bails on wall flips are nasty. You need to be confident with your technique first. And that means.. being able to do a standing back tuck.

Once you get your back tuck, don't forget to push HARD off the wall. My first attempt was a gainer into the wall. Ya i learned gainers before I learned wall flips, how odd.

Definitely get your standing back tuck first, then its just putting a strong tac off the wall and a back tuck together.

I almost have my backtuck down (and I wont even think about trying a wallflip until it is solid) but I cant help but think that a backflip off of one foot would feel a lot different that one off two feet. How can you get used to this feeling? I suppose you could flip off of one foot into a foam pit... The thing is my gym doesnt aloow people on the walls because some idiot kids almost broke their knecks. My gym isnt too open to the "whole parkour thing". They stopped us from using the pad block things for vaults. Anyways, yeah... what are some other ways to work up to it? In a gym I mean.

I think a wallflip is more of a mental obstacle. It seems a lot harder than it truly is, but once you get over the fear and uncertainty, it's pretty easy. Despite what I said about it being easy, still work on a solid back tuck.
My gym has these giant triangle wedge pads that we set up against a wall, which made wallflips a lot easier to learn. Another thing you could do is have another person push a pad underneath you while you are in mid air, so if you bail it's not so bad. Both involve you using a wall though, so I don't know how well that would work in your gym since they don't like the idea.

NO u do not need to learn standing back tucks before u do this move i cant stand back tuck and i can do it!! first off, get a matress. than get two of your friends to spot u and after awhile when your fear is over, kick off the wall and throw your head back. now everyones gonna kick my arse for saying that, but it works. once u get advanced stop throwing your head back and just tuck. than youll get ti perfectly.

Something that poeple always say is to learn a backflip first. Although it is true that it helps, I've found this to be unnecesery. The two moves are diffrent movements and eventhough are similar should not be thought of as the same. Just like a 360 and Kong vaults are very similar in many ways and knowing one helps with the other, but one diffrence sets them hugly apart. You need to practice your wall-flips in a gym so as to not get hurt, but when you do you want to think of it as though gravity changed and when you first touch the wall it becomes the source of gravity then with one step or two steps you give a push off ( one foot requires a harder push) and tuck, opening up when you see the ground begin to come under your feet....................................hope this helps some how
