I know what the two vaults are...
And before you throw links at me , Ill tell you that I've watched enough of them.
Seeing as were both at a mis-understandment, I'll just say I've seen people say that they "monkey vault up steps now" from just skimming through other threads.
Don't get mad at me if theres slight confusion between us/whoever.
::EDIT:: - Already watched that guide.. thanks anyways?
::EDIT2:: I, by no means, wish to come off as rude, as I do appreciate your help nonetheless, but im quite confused if what im doing is a kong >.>

Parkour and Freerunning / Movement / Practicing the monkey vault on steps
|
on: November 07, 2009, 08:11:05 PM

Hello So I've been trying a few different things to try and master the monkey vault which I seem to have trouble to do. So, is it considered a monkey vault if I do the general movement on steps ? Is it an effective way to train the monkey vault? Or isn't it a very good thing to train the vault on and if so what else should I practice it on. P.S : I do have another topic in the movement Subcategory | parkour. But it gets next to no views and I put another here to generate some more traffic (plus it's a new question ). Feel free to lock/remove/whatever if necessary. Thanks

parkour can sometimes be challenging. you just have to look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself if youre ready to parkour. then get out there and let it flow. dont let your mistakes get you down. lol My funniest would probably be when I was practicing precisions on metal bleachers at the baseball diamonds and when I jumped to land on the last bleacher, My shoes slipped and I landed on my Butt on the ground XD

Well , attempted it on a small wooden fence, got a running start, did it, hesitated in the air, stopped midair.. and landed..... on the fence. To put it bluntly, I raped my shins. I still can't get past that mental barrier and I don't have anywhere soft to practice

Just make sure your rolling from your prefered shoulder, to the opposite hip and you'll be fine, you can iron out the little problems here and there as you practice.

Youtube can make parkour seem attractive to those who have never seen it. But you can't really understand parkour and especially the steady progression involved with parkour if you've never actually done it before. It makes me want to tear my hair out when I try to explain parkour to people who will NEVER understand it unless they try it, which they never will. Especially when their opinion is that parkour is inferior to standard sports. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it just pisses me off. I used to do standard sports, I used to be a varsity soccer player. But after quitting soccer due to the stress of competition, I can say that parkour is the most enjoyable "sport" I have ever done, and I've never been more passionate about anything else in my life. Well, except maybe when pokemon came out but still Same with me, I've quit pretty much all sports upon entering Junior high/Freshmen year. The stress of having to win all the time just doesn't appeal to me, and the general crowd of people that are in the sports programs in my town.. are well.. jerks.

I also got into parkour through youtube.. (somewhat anyway)
But like Jake said, your generalizing WAY to much..
I saw mainly the flips and the roof top gaps and all that crazy stuff. But even though thats what introduced me, im way more interested in watching progressional training videos to help myself progress nice and safely.
I can agree with you though, I've seen countless examples of what your saying.

O-line Guard Same, Played Gaurd and Tackle. Funny thing is, im 115 pounds and about 5'4 rofl. I held my own though. I can't imagine I'd be a whole bunch of help since im just starting out, but drill the roll like I did and it'll make you seem not as fearful for attempting vaults and other movements. But idk maybe you have no fear XD. Gl anyhow

I hope they make a show out of it. And on the season finale, they get a lot of us from APK to come and watch live, and maybe train.
Seems like a 1 time thing, There has been absolutly nothing on about the parkour challenge anymore. I've checked up on Air dates on mtv.com - Nothing I've regretfully let my TV set on mtv for about a half hour in hopes of an ad for the show. - nothing. Anybody else know anything about it ?

way ahead a' ya. lol, imma have a seminar for cops and EMT's and all that while i am a cop, and eventually try and get it worked into the training. because in reality it needs to be there.
I come from a whole generation of cops and police, and know the system a bit. I really doubt that it will happen. Reason being : Theres a lot of fat cops...

Parkour and Freerunning / General Discussion / Re: Davidbelle.com is going live soon!

DavidBelle.com has been around for awhile just because there is coming soon sign doesn't mean anything really. David has never shown any interest in the online community sites that have popped up with his official blessing or name have all turned out to be put out by his handlers or people close to him with no oversight from him, their also generally useless and don't last long. Getting excited about this is pointless.
Not exactly. I agree, just because theres a coming soon sign doesn't mean much, but it does mean that something is in the works.
