I think back to primitive humans, and when they when out hunting.... Of course they wore some protection from the cold and elements, but they were more or less bare-footed and bare-handed.

6  Specifically For... / Gorilla PK / Re: Mission Statement (Read if new to subforum) on: January 19, 2010, 11:15:13 PM
I guess I would fit in the criteria,

I used to weigh 220 lbs of mostly fat when I started parkour about a year ago. Now I lost almost all of that fat and my low was 155 lbs, since then I gained some muscle (maybe some fat from winter) and now weigh 180 lbs. My Parkour Buddy I sometimes train with is very skinny and lean... he weighs 120 lbs.

so I consider myself a Gorrilla, based on my experience and people around me....

WOW.... that was Possibly the Longest but shortest reply I ever read, I am just Speachless. I read that and well, to tell the truth I was moved... I couldn't stop reading, and then at the end I was Amazed. I wouldn't be surprised if APK posts this on the Front of the Main Page. Truly, if you can have the strength and Will to go through that and still Practice and have Love for Parkour, anyone can do Parkour.

like I said, I'm Speachless...... Cry

when I first started parkour I thought I could take drops like that, and I did.... but it caught up with me and  my knees started to swell  up.... I coudn't walk or do anything without pain..... I'm all better now but now I know... if it doesn't hurt... it will.... So don't do drops that high...... PERIOD.

17  Parkour and Freerunning / Parkour / Re: How to Land on: January 16, 2010, 02:06:53 AM
Yo man.... I'm really proud of you and this is a great thread... and imma let you finnish.... but..... Beyonce Had one of the greatest videos of all time!!

Sarcasm - Akh

hahahhahaa......... no, just joking, but really. there are a few points you have wrong, and that you fail to mention. When one lands, on must land on the balls of his/her feet. that is very important and I don't see it here.

and the thing about the Decreasing the time of the landing? that is confusing.... I look at that and I am confused. so imagine a beginner just starting off looking at this for the first time. to have a safe landing you need to decrease the amount of impact, or force, absorbed.... and that is where the roll comes into play. but like you said there will be times where a roll won't be possible. so a good landing is a must... in that case there are a few points to remember.....

1. land on the Balls of your feet. (always)
2. resist the impact by collapsing to the ground absorbing the landing with your legs. (not your knees)
3. the softer the landing the better. (you have this right)

you don't want to be tense, but you don't want to be loose. this reminds me of a good Bruce Lee Quote:
"Not being tense but ready. Not thinking but not dreaming. Not being set but flexible. Liberation from the uneasy sense of confinement. It is being wholly and quietly alive, aware and alert, ready for whatever may come."

maybe he wasn't talking about parkour or landings, but it seems to apply.... haha. and one more thing.....

4. the entire landing will take as long as it takes..... some landings have so much force and momentum, that it can take minutes, to days, to weeks, to even years to just recover from... er.. I mean absorb the impact.....lol..... so make sure if you are in a position where a roll is not possible..... try to climb down a little before dropping. or don't drop, unless you know how to land with softness.

And forget about that equation you have.....  the way you decrease the impact is simple..... you can't, there will always be impact, and you can't decrease it unless you decrease the height at which you drop from.

18  Parkour and Freerunning / Movement / Re: Kong trouble on: January 16, 2010, 01:13:42 AM
Practice..... practice.... and practice...... try monkey vaults over a small waist high rail or fence.... then move onto wider things like tables and benches. It might seem like you'll never get it, but surely you will.... and the feeling will be like no other.....

just keep at it and evenatully your mind will lose its fear of clipping the feet. I think thats the biggest reason why you tend to move your feet off to the side
